24 bit DAC

Most USENET arguments do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The "my $500 power cable is better than yours" debates on rec.audio.high-end are entertaining for about five minutes. But you hope to get a morsel of good information out of the idiots.

i think it's just capable of reproducing more subtle changes in the music.....

what i never understood, is what is oversampling? i remember when cd players first came out, oversampling was a big deal.... now you never hear that term..... is a 1-bit dac with 8x oversampling the same as an 8-bit dac? so confusing

and also, do 20 and 24-bit players decode the full 20-bit recording on an HDCD? Or do they just use their 20/24 bit chip to decode the normal 16-bit recording?

I am running DAC in my car and i love it.

on valid reason for a 24bit DAC with a 16bit format is for DSP. any signal processing will do adds and subtracts to the 16bit values. this allows a larger amount of resolution to be useful.

in the usenet thread, the poster incorrectly describes 1bit D-A. 1bit DACs are similar to classD amps. they do a 1 bit (high/low) output an extremely high rate. 24bit DACs generates an actual analog voltage, but at a slower rate.
