2007 RE MX 15" Tinsel Leads Burning

also was quoted ~$180 for a recone not including shipping...so it looks like hes gunna get it reconed as soon as he comes across some money

thanks all

tis true his HU was probally sending out a clipped signal.
yea the mysterious(not really) thing is that when at 2 ohms his sub started smoking while playing White Girl but immediately turned it off...then at .5 ohms played white girl and same thing except a lot worse this time haha

no more white girl for his MX

lol

idk if its like the bl, but ive redone tinsel leads for the bl 4 a buddy, and all we did is pop off the dfustcap

get pics of the tinsel portion so i can see where it connects to the coil. if you can see it, we can fix it

more than likely

You guys saying it was clipping that caused the damage have got to be kidding... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

faulty solder joints is the correct answer....

faulty solder joints is the correct answer....
but the thing about saying that is that it wasnt anywhere near where the tinsels would have been soldered on...it is halfway inbetween the solder point where you hookup the wires to the amp and to the coil..

^ Trust me... it heated up and eventually burned off at the solder joint...

It would have also appeared burned where the tinsel was in contact with the spider because the whole lead would have got quite hot..... hot enough to burn the spider a bit....

faulty solder joints is the correct answer....
because faulty soldier joints cause a tinsel to pop in the middle.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

okey there turbo.....but you are incorrect.

^ the OP said "there is a black burn spot where the tinsels are on one side"

NOT "The tinsel burned in half"

I've seen this happen many times before... its because of a BAD SOLDER JOINT.... (with the only other possibility being a bad lead that has been bent/stressed along it's length giving a area of high resistance)

Either way, clipping has nothing to do with it...
