2007 Gaming PC , needs an upgrade .....

You could buy my 4870! It's a tad faster than a 5770, but doesn't have the DX11 capabilities. It's also far cheaper. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I'd say, look into a quad core (or 6-core, but this option would most likely need AMD to save some money), and a new video card. I played everything with 4GB of RAM, a 3.0Ghz AMD dual core, and this video card, until about a 3 months ago. The 5770 is a great buy. I'd also suggest the GTX 460.

ya the 460 is not bad, but i think the 5770 is a tad bit better in gaming. Most new games arn't really using new technology to its full potential yet so cuda and physX isnt used that much in the majority of games yet. However if you do-do video editing and 3d rendering, nvidia is the way to go for sure, but like you said, you'll just use it for gaming. And only Nvidia cards have cuda and physX, so the 460 does have that. I would recommend the GTX 465 as well, also not bad. If I was to go with an nvidia card, I'd go with EVGA. I would always buy from them if I go nvidia. Last card I bought from them was the GTX 295 with the backplate, that was the dual GPU card. I oc'ed that thing and it screamed destruction. Maxed every setting in Crysis, and Crysis Warhead. That game looked gorgeous in 1080p.

I wouldn't buy the 4870, no offense to the above poster, but new games are coming out with DX11 and the different between DX10 and DX11 is noticeable. However, if the thread starter doesn't mind playing in DX10, than the 4870 is not a bad card either, but I'd go with the 5770, 470, or 465.

I have noticed that a lot of the newer games are a bit more cpu dependant now, so I would recommend a cpu first. If you dont want to get a new i5/i7 cpu mobo (around 600 for a good combo), upgrade that 6850 to a q 9650, it is 2 e8400's on 1 chip 329 at newegg, and very overclockable ( over 4ghz on air). Right now your cpu is the bottleneck, not the 8800. Then, wait till the newest AMD comes out, and get into a 5870 super cheap, it will only be a couple more months till that happens.

I bought this XFX Radeon HD 5750 - will be here tomorrow........

Funny my 8800GTS I bought in 2007 was 350 bucks and then it was pretty state of the art in 07

now its worth 10X less - It was a top ten card in 07 now its bottom 100 LOL

With Gaming there is always a bottle neck, there is always a new item coming out that will drop the price of

something already out there.....and unless you have unlimited funds you always have a compromise

Amazon.com: XFX Radeon HD 5750 1GB DDR5 PCIE Graphics Card HD575XZNFC: Electronics: Reviews, Prices & more

I may do a CPU next week or so

AMD for sure........

well look back 10 years, in 2000, we where all still playing our ps1's and nintendo 64's. And for those that where fortunate, played games on their pc. Just look at the difference in a 10 year time frame. Imagine what we will achieve in the next 10 years. I'm expecting real life graphics, or extremely close at least.

Dont bother with the 5770.

Get a 5850. Specificially this one.

Newegg.com - ASUS EAH5850 DIRECTCU/2DIS/1GD5 Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ Eyefinity

Edit: Nevermind, you already bought a card. I have a similar PC to yours. Except it was a little less powerful.

I have a conroe E6600.

120mm CPU cooler

4 gigs of crucial ballistix (**** ty ram)

Asus P5N32E-SLI Plus 650i board

Evga 8800GTS 640mb

I upgraded my ram to the ballistix (I dont like it though. Unstable when I overclock), OC'd my processor to 3.2ghz with a new CPU cooler and replaced my aging 8800 with the 5850.

It runs like a champ. I can max out the graphics except for AA in BC2. That game is a CPU hog. The more I overclock the better the game performs. My CPU is now my bottleneck for games.
