2007 F150 (6.5 inch) Speaker Install?

Has anyone sucessfully install 6.5" speakers in a late model Ford? The reason I ask is I purchased a pair of Rainbow SLC265 compnents for my 2007 F150. I understand the need for the 5x7" to 6.5" adapter plate, but is there any other modification needed?

The external diameter of the Rainbow speakers is 6.53", but that's about 3/8" higher than the current opening for the 5x7"speaker.

I've read where some folks say it will fit and other say it won't.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just trim a little sheet metal off. It wont hurt at all.

Different speaker manufacturers have different sized speakers, even though all are called 6.5" With my jeep (Stock 5.25's,) others have been able to fit certain 6.5's in the doors without any modification, however my CDT 6.5's needed heavy sheet metal trimming to fit.
