I am pretty much total noob to car installation of stuff.

I'm doing my research and learning though.

But it seems with this stock crap right here

and this antenna gayness

Its gonna ****.

Read rumors about the monsoon amplifier splitting all types of voltages and stuff. And that you need like a $50 adapter for the antenna to work with an aftermarket head unit because of its signal amplification.

Anybody have any experience with this? Does this seem to out of reach for me to do?

Thanks.

if your in the country like i think you are install a 2 meter ham radio and a scanner along with your system.. mount the ham and scanner on the roof //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i like eclipse for decks.. Mmats makes AWESOME speakers and so does image Dynamics!!

no roof mounting thx. xD

I was just told by an audio buddy of mine it'd probably just be best to take it to best buy or something its not worth the trouble.

Suggestions?

**** it.

remove the stereo, tuck the harness somewhere (there is no sense wire) and run your own power and ground. there is a distrobution block above the break pedal with ring terminal type connections on it. use a multimeter, turn can on and test for 12v (and rev the engine to see if it changes just in case) turn it off, and test the ones that read 12~14 volts. find one that turns off, i want to say its the one on the far right hand side. connect +12v to your yellow headunit wire, and the switched (car off 0v car on 12v) to the red wire on your headunit, and ground the black wire.

all done.

hmm

interesting.

Is anything else invovled if I want to do a whole new speaker, amp, sub setup? Which is what I'm planning. The head unit is the first thing I wanted to change though. Looking at the Phoenix Gold RSG's ftw.

xD

Would adding the rsg's involve things like like completely re-running speaker wires?

What about the monsoon amp that has been a pain in the *** for alot of people? Are those people keeping the same amp or something?

Thanks for the help so far though!

does not matter. disregard ANY stock wiring and run all new stuff yourself.

dont even bother trying to figure out the stock electrical.

the people who have problems want to use the stock amp with the system, or at least the stock wires. totally bypass everything. run your own wires.

I think that's what I would do. If I drove a vw can. Lol. Great post Req.

i always bypass them, its actually really easy. You can get the vw harness for 20 retail and some speaker wire. Is your amp mounted under the rear deck?

And your antenna adapter is like $12, you should not need the powered version

It's been my experience that Best Buy, Circuit City, and most big chains know NOTHING about Volkswagens or any other German vehicle.

Yes, the antenna adapter is a little more expensive than most cars but if you search online you can find them cheaper. Best Buy probably won't charge you for the adapter because they won't use it, and then tell you that your antenna must be busted when your radio doesn't work.
