Hello all. I’ve got a 2002 Acura RL and plan to upgrade the audio system. I need some help picking out replacement speakers – I’ve been out of the game for a while and no longer know who the best manufacturers are. In my day, it was Fosgate, Pyle, & Kicker. I have no idea what the last 15 years have brought to the car audiophile.
I just purchased a Clarion CX609. I chose this head unit because of the clean stock look and compatibility with my phone. Also, it has all the pertinent bells and whistles I need.
I need some advice on good replacement speakers that will sound better than the factory Bose. Cost is a factor, so I’m looking for something that will provide good bang for the buck. I listen to a lot of heavy metal (Metallica, Alice in Chains, etc…), but occasionally throw in some rap.
To keep cost and complexity down, I prefer to drive the speakers with only the head unit – 22 watts RMS & 50 watts. Is this feasible? If not, I’m OK w/ buying a small amp.
What manufacturer and series do ya’ll recommend?
