2001 Civic Wiring

My friend and I installed a new head unit in my 2001 civic. When we finished, the interior dash lights and the tail lights no longer turn on. The headlights, brake lights, and overhead lights all work still... How do i figure out what I did wrong? =/

I know it sounds silly but they may be on the same fuse. I have a 01 as well, and theres been a few times I pop a fuse and something totally unrelated goes out too. Id start checking your fuses. Pull any fuse your wiring might have dealt with and check it with a multimeter. If its good, it should read 0 ohms. If the fuse is bad, it will read infinity ohms. If its just a case of a blown fuse, which hopefully it is, its a super cheap and easy fix.

i use a DMM to check fuses but measure voltage with them installed in the panel. find a good ground for the black DMM lead, then touch the right DMM lead to the fuse pins - on either side of the number. if you have voltage on one side of the fuse but not the other - it's a bad fuse. do it this way and you don't even need to remove the fuses to check them - takes about 1 minute to check the whole panel.

Im not sure how, but it seemed like we were left with extra wires after connecting everything to the harness. I think there was a yellow and a orange wire. unfortunately, whoever put in the first head unit made a huge mess of the wires

Thanks again to all those who posted. I re did the wire harness and checked all the fuses. I found the taillight fuse under the hood, and that took care of the tail light problem. However, all the other fuses seem to be fine and the dash lights still dont work. Also, the turn signal indicator lights on my dashboard are always on when I turn the headlights on. They stay illuminated untill I turn the headlights off. It doesnt sounds like a problem with the fuse, any other ideas? thanks!

the only two orange wires were not connected to anything. I put tape and wire caps on them. Im so confused as to why the dash lights are still out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Three? I know about the ones under the steering wheel and under the hood by the battery. Would a fuse cause the turning signal indicator lights to stay on?
