new 2013 gm crew cab standard factory hdunit with xm

i can't listen to this factory system anymore. the screach and boom gives me a headache. my old kraco system in my old 72 ford mavrick sounded better.

i have a budget of 2 grand for drivers and amp and would like some quality componets for good clearity. about the best drivers i have listened to in my rural area are the jl c5 650's. very pleased with the sound of these. but there spendy. they have a very rich, warm and detailed sound.they were paired with a 10 wd3 sud. i was thinking to push these with a hd900.5 amp

at this time i plan to use the oem hdunit for about couple months or so till get the old supertuner3 out of my wifes car. then next summer (save some more) look at a dvd/app unit.

just woundering if i could do better with my money?

these arent bad for the money Amazon.com: JBL MS-62C 6.5" 2-Way Component Speaker System: Car Electronics sound quality is not going to be far off from JL's components. Look into CDT, Image dynamics, Morel, phd for other choices.

For the amp, the hd900.5 is a solid but pricey choice. You can get a 4 channel amp and a seperate monoblock amp for much cheaper than that.

JL is a decent brand for SQ stuff but i would never pay retail price for them.

The sound quality of any upgrades is directly tied to how much effort you put into the installation. Virtually any door speaker upgrade on a late model vehicle needs some work to make a solid baffle for the new woofers. Car doors are often barely acceptable for use as a speaker enclosure, but there are a few options to improve that.

man i would love to listen to some other choices but, there is not none to be found within 100 miles of here. as it is i had to travel nearly an hour drive to find the JL line and at that, their demos were missing several pieces. that was pretty much there top end stuff too. sure they had basics like kenwoods, kicker, fosz, sony and the like. just didn't do it for me. i first hear the c2 650's and they were much better and the best of the others' .the c5's were clearly top shelf pieces. i would like to hear some focals or morels but the drive is to far and just a bit over my allready shallow pockets. i learned not to buy home theater stuff on what sounded good to others and to audition to them for myself, play with the tunning ot see what depth the said piece offered. i'll have a look into some of the choices mentioned thanks.

its been a long time since i built a system and now know that i don't know much of what i thought i did.

What will make the biggest difference to your overall sound these days is DSP, on top of good installation techniques. You can take a good speaker set from any of the major manufacturers and make it sound 10 times better with those two elements. What I mean by DSP is similar to what you can get for home theater receivers for tuning the system to the room and your listening positions. The car is a much harder room to treat than a home theater or listening room, so why would you drop in speakers to factory locations and expect them to sound their best? This is what we attempt to fix with acoustic treatments, speaker placement and aiming, time delay and EQ.

i know a bit about what your saying. several years ago a good friend, who's a very serious and talented audio/video phile took me along to the sincore corp. isf calibration course. im no pro, but i have some skills above the average theater tinker.

i moved out of state and now travel a bunch for work also. i plan to roll this truck in a few years. so i really don't want to get to crazy in to set up. where as it will cost a bunch to make resale. just a decent system. i ve looked at a few youtube installs one with some door treatment to an import by a home brew. still on the fence at the select componets stage. any sugestions as to tutorials on installs in my gm crew?
