2 vs 4 12 inch subs

ok theoretically if you had 2 subs getting 1000 watts rms would it be louder than 4 getting 500 watts rms each? assuming that both set ups were 100 percent efficient?

I've done a coulpe two subs ported(12s) and single sub ported (15).. ALL on the same mmats amp also!! I've always went back to my 4 12 sealed set up... Yeah the other set ups have got'n louder on certain songs, but I listen to alot of diff music..mostly rnb & rap tho. Oddly enough the four 12 set up could be heard for a L O N G distance.. Found out one nite heading to a friends party out in the country one nite. Was told I could be heard b4 my head lights could be seen.. I called BS and let some1 take my car and gona for a drive playing the same song on the same volume I had it on. I was super shocked this was true!!! U could even tell what the song was by the beat!!! Lmao!

Depends man. Generally I'd say go with 4 12"s, but it just depends.

Every application is different and will yield different results.

if assuming 100% efficient they'd be the same.

since that will NEVER EVER HAPPEN, your best bet is going with more cone area and less power to each sub than less cone area and more power to each sub.

but the variables are so numerous the only way to find out is to do both setups

mostly personal preference. I've always preferred fewer good subs over more decent subs.

I agree but just because a woofer is 500w doesn't mean it's not a good woofer.

Id go with the two.. more wow factor. Heck id rather give 1 12'' sub 2000w
