2 ohm vs. 4 ohm

i don't have an amp yet. i'm trying to figure out what the hell i'm doing before i buy everything. i started with an alpine 9887 hu and want 1 12 at around 500w. just wanna match everything properly. Thanks

A good example is just that your amp can only put out a certain amount of wattage per resistance of the voicecoils...

Lets say you needed 500w to power your sub....which is Dual 2ohm...

So you can look for an amp that puts out 500w @ 1ohm or 500w @ 4ohm...

Even if your sub was Dual 4ohm...

You can commonly find an amp that puts out 500w @ 2ohms...

Any way you look at it...your still giving the sub its 500w of power...you just have more options when it comes to finding an amp...

go with the 4 ohm sub if u planning to run your entire system off one single amp such as a 4 channel or something....i rather a 4ohm sub anyday over a 2ohm one....it is more versatile and an amp to get for it is easier as most amps are rated at 4ohms
