2 ohm speaker from h.u.?

can i run a 2 ohm speaker off the speaker level output(speaker wires) on a modern h.u? 45 watts per channel? without damageing anything?

Depends, some Pioneer HUs can be bridged, which means they are 2 ohm stereo stable. If you are not running rear fill, it makes it even easier. I sugguest you try it, but keep a close eye on how hot your HU gets.

Actually, Soundstream years ago tested many headunits for just this application. The result was the 2 ohm SPL series of speakers and components. So yes it will work, the tradeoff is a increased heat signature and the chance of a thermal shutdown.
