2 mtx's or 1 type r?

right now ive got 2 12" mtx 5500's in a sealed enclosure. Im wondering how they would compare to 1 12" type r in a ported box with about 2.5 ft^3 tuned to 35 Hz. Mostly, im looking for SPL.

Ok......now I can't see it... The Type R should get louder on the same input power with no problem. If you were to build a ported box of the right size and design, your two 5500's that you already have would blow a mud hole in the Type R setup. You already have them, I'd heavily recommend that you ditch the sealed box and go with a custom ported enclosure for the two subs. What vehicle is this going into?

grand prix, the thing is that im thinking of doing this just because i have a friend who wants to buy the mtx's and the sealed box, and im planning on getting 1 type r, and then when i get some more money, getting a second one. ive got 1000 watts to work with, with 1 type r, it will get 600 watts at 2 ohms, then with the second, they will get 500 each. But you think ill see an spl improvement with the 1 ported type r as opposed to the 2 mtx's sealed, right?

no doubt. will be night and day difference. If you put the 12 in a 2.5 net cubes box with a 40sq" vent x 16" long, it'll bump up to the retarded X2 level on the same power.
