2 D4 subs need 4 ohm final

ok, so for some reason my brain is telling me that i should wire each sub to 2 ohm and then wire them together into a 4 ohm load for optimal performance. but i have them each wired to 8 ohm and wired together to 4 right now and **** seems fine.

would there be any benefit to running each sub at 2 ohm instead of 8 ohm?

You should wire to 1 or 4 ohm

And by wiring to a lower ohm, the subs will draw more power from the amp. If your amp can handle it.

i should wire to 4 ohm since i have a 4 ohm stable amp. i am asking if wiring the subs to 8 ohm has any benefits to wireing them to 2 ohm or vice versa...

honestly i dont think it makes a difference but for some reason my brain is saying wire them lower and each woofer will "see" more power. but that cant be right.

No it doesn't make a difference, either way you're getting 4 ohms

the only difference is if maybe you end up with a 3.9 vs say a 4.1 finaly load. really though it is pretty much the exact same either way. just easier to wire down to 1 ohm later if you wanted going the other direction.

Subwoofer Wiring Diagrams, Two 4 ohm Dual Voice Coil (DVC) Speakers run 2 or 1ohm load,4 ohms is just fine as well.A good amp is worth the the trouble

i kno, im in the market for a new amp. but i figured id see how much power i can get out of this Klipsch Promedia 2.1 amp i have laying around. lol, i still cant get klpisch to tell me if it is 2 ohm stable or what.

the only difference is if maybe you end up with a 3.9 vs say a 4.1 finaly load. really though it is pretty much the exact same either way. just easier to wire down to 1 ohm later if you wanted going the other direction.

Using the same 2 subs and same wire for both wiring techniques, that would be 100% impossible unless you intentionally made the connections loose on one of the two methods.

There is no difference.

Same thing as running 2 amps independent vs them strapped.

Independent will usually put out slightly more power but it's so little it's not even worth mentioning.

I always wire subs in parallel rather than series. Wiring subs in series can cause distortion.

but impediences are not perfect ive switched from parallel to series and gone from 4.1 to 3.9 with all connections soldered and spring terminals on the sub. thats why i said its not noticable.

Not trolling. Here's the explanation. Due to slight and unavoidable differences between speakers and the high likelihood of uneven loading between different speakers in a car, there will be slight differences in the mechanical behavior of the two speakers in series. These differences in movement result in the creation of induced voltage (called back EMF) by the speakers across the series connection. This effect causes a problem when two speakers that behave differently are connected in series because the speakers can modulate each other (cause each other to move), resulting in distortion. The problem becomes more serious as more speakers are connected in series.

The following is a good experiment to show the effect of back EMF: connect four speakers in series and short the positive and negative input leads of the series circuit. Push down on one cone with your hand; you will notice that the three other speakers will move in the opposite direction of the one you are pushing. Now, reconnect the speakers in parallel, short the inputs and push down on one cone. The speakers will not modulate each other because each one is shorted directly.

Back EMF modulation is not a concern when the voice coils of a dual voice coil speaker are wired in series to each other because the coils are physically coupled on one moving mass. Therefore, they cannot possibly modulate each other because they cannot move independently.

For safety reasons, it's always better to wire each sub in series then parallel the two subs. If one of the jumper wires between coils should come loose the sub stops playing and the other sub still gets the same applied voltage as before. If the subs are in series and a jumper wire comes loose the voltages across the subs will change from 50/50 to 66/33 which could over power one of them.
