2-channel or 4-channel

Well, after I get the money I will be putting a system in my car. I am looking at either a Premier DEH-P780MP, or the Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X890. For my front stage, I will be going with either Rainbow SLC's or Crystal SSCS. I will use some cheapy Pioneer 6x9's for rear fill (I already have them, which is why I'll be using them). Now, here is my question. Should I use a 2-channel to power just the components up front? Let the head-unit power the rear speakers for rear fill. Or should I get a 4-channel and power both the front and rear speakers? I was thinking about getting a good 4-channel amp, and using the two front channels to power the front speakers, and bridging the rear channel to use with a subwoofer. I think that's what I am going to be doing. Let me know what you think would be best. Also, I don't need much power for the subwoofer, because I most likely won't be going with a big setup, just one that sounds great and clear. If I feel I need more bass down the line, I will add another amp/bigger sub.

i know on my head unit you can turn off the internal amp to run the full 5 volts to the amp(s), so im gettin a 5 channel to power everything, cuz my headunit sucks for internal ampage

Hmmm, I guess I didn't think of this idea. I was just looking that the JL Audio 500/5. Seems to be a perfect amp for what I want....

- Front Channels: 100 W RMS x 2 @ 1.5 ohm-4 ohm (11V-14.5V)

- Rear Channels: 25 W RMS x 2 @ 1.5 ohm-4 ohm(11V-14.5V)

- Subwoofer Channel: 250 W RMS @ 1.5 ohm-4 ohm (11V-14.5V)

Sure, it is fairly expensive. But it has a LOAD of adjustability, and a lot of other things that will come in useful.

I think I will go this route. What are some other nice 5-channel amps that compare to the 500/5?

it should put out 5 volt regardless (not gonna get into the fact that's not rms //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ) turning off the internal amp supposedly reduces heat and inturn gives better sq.

Yes, I've read about the reduced heat, and better sq. But what are you talking about with the RMS ratings? I'm still learning here....

when you are playing music, the voltage does not stay a constant 5 volts. when you play a town and around 3/4 volume you will acheive the rms voltage of the deck. generally a deck will produce around 1 volt rms while playing music
