2 amps vs 1 amp

Ok, so me and my friend went into best buy for the casual feel good about ourselves. My friend has 2 Type-Rs powered by an MRP-M1000. So coincidentally, a "friend" that goes to my school is working and we slip into our convo what he has. The bby guy smirks and says "meh, not that good of an amp, but if you had two MRP-M500's running 1 to each sub, now that would be sweet." Okay, so I'm not an audio pro or anything but it was rough to keep a straight face.

I couldn't think of a single positive to running 2 amps when 2xMRP-M500s=1xMRP-M1000. You'd need more wire... and setting each amp identically would be hard. Give me your opinions, granted he works at bby, that just seems plain retarded.

Edit* should've put this in the amp section, and micah, answer my question is there any better benefit to run with 2 amps rather than 1 that will do the same power as the 2 smaller ones?

Dumb thread.

It's pretty much the same as powering your subs with a 2 channel amp. People do it all the time. As long as your subs are in seperate chambers it's okay.

But your friend at Best Buy doesn't seem to know what he's talking about. You'll get that quite a bit when dealing with Best Buy employees.

Edit:

The MRP-M500s are the better option if your friend's Type R's are 4 Ohm DVC, because the MRP amps are only stable down to 2 ohms...

Lol, I know what I'm talking about... It just didn't make sense to me, but maybe I was the uneducated one. And his are the Dual 2 Ohms, so we are running them at 2 ohms. Either way, we didn't specify which sub we had (dual 4/2,) he just insisted upon 2 MRP-M500s would be better off. I didn't say anything because he is my friend from school after all.

Edit Jeep beats:

MRP-M500, 300 at 4, 500 at 2

MRP-M1000 600 at 4?, 1000 at 2
