2 12s vs 1 18

I know another X vs Y thing, but I cant same to decide. So here is what my plan is. Either 2 12" BLs or 1 18" BTL. Im going to probably buy an Orion 2500d and run 2500 wats to the BTL or 1250 to each BL. I have enough room to build the ideal box for each. What would be the advantages and disadvantages of each? I know the BTL is going to have more cone area, and each set up is just going to be for daily driving, so loudest to the ear.

BTL will be louder, but you already know that.

for a dd setup, i would probably rather have the 2 BLs.. they might have a little better sq, and they seem more practical in a dd than an 18.

Hmm, what's most important to you?

Proper room for 2 12 is probaly 4.5 to 5 cu.ft.

For 1 18 BTL it is probably right around 6 cubes...

Do you like thunderous lows? 18s usually work better for deep, deep lows...

12s may sound better and be just as loud...

Well If I tuned the BTL like a 30-35 would it sound pretty good? The 18 will also be cheaper too.

My 18" BTL in 7 cubes at 32hz doesn't hit the lows any better then a couple of type R's I had in 5 cubes @ 34hz sound quality wize, but the BTL 18 is much louder and flex's alot more, athough keep in mind I'm comparing a BTL to Type R's here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'd actually go for (2) 12" BL's in 6 cubes @ 33hz , I bet that would be louder. 24" total cone area vs 18" cone area. -*edit* - nevermind get a 18" BTL

Sorry man, I don't think you can just add up the core area like that...

Figure out the area for each 12 then add that...

1 12 = 113 ( 3.14 x r squared)

1 18 = 254

2 12 = 226

ive run 2 12's,2 15's,and 1 18,the most i liked outta the three was the two 15 re sx's with a orion 2500d for daily.

and yea cone area is not added by just combining diameter.
