2 12's ported vs 2 15's sealed

If the same type of sub were for to it's own custom box, which would be louder/boomier: 2 12" subs in a ported box or 2 15" in a sealed box. Subs in question: Rockford p3

I for one, have never heard a 15 in a sealed box.

Seems like it would be a complete waste of potential.

Can't go wrong with 2 12's in a properly made ported enclosure.

Not sure about sealed 15's bro...

if this is in a trunk and the 15s are firing to the trunk and its too big causing it to block most of the sound waves, then the 12s would be louder. What makes a setup loud is proper subwoofer loading.

The 2 twelves in a proper ported box should out do a set of 15's in an improper install, ie, too small of a box. If you do not already have the 12's, a beefy set of tens in the proper ported enclosure, tuned to between 30-34hrtz, would be impressive as well.

The subs in question at this point are the Rockford p3 12 and the JBL gto 15. The Rockford would be in a box tuned to 37hz and the jbl in a sealed box. The only reason I am leaning towards the 15 at this point is that the listed sensitivity on the jbl's is 93 Db and the Rockford is only 86 Db.

i had two fifteens in req'd airspace and two decent tens ported was louder to the ear

Sensativity with subwoofers isn't going to tell you much, def not how loud it will get on given power. If you research hoffmans iron law, it'll make sense. Regardless, if you want loud and boomy go ported. If you havent' purchased subs yet, someone can point you to something better than a p3 though.
