hey yall, I was wondering what you would do, 2 12's or 1 15...

i did try searching and didn't get much help other than a guy asking the same question saying that he's got a 1000 amp to put towards it and pple are saying go for the 15...

well, price are about the same...about $245 for the two R 12's and $215 for the R 15...so not much of a difference...only $30 or so...

I don't have a amp yet but i will plan on getting a 1000-1200rms for the single 15 or a 1400-1600rms for the two 12's...my guess is that the price difference will be about $50 or so for the different amps...so ultimately its going to be about a $80 difference only...

what would you do since they will both take up the same amount of room and cost is similar?

i know this is one of those "just pick one dammit" questions but i just want to see what everyone would do or if anyone ever had to choose between a dual 12 vs a single 15 and the price was similar...

i would go for the single 15 if the price wasn't so daym similar but they are and specs wise, the 15 does seem to be alot better then a single 12...thanks

i say 1 15 b/c the box would be easier to build and it would be easier to hook to an amp
honestly i don't think thats the problem...i think you would just need to cut out an extra hole and if you know how ohms and resistance work, you can get the right amp for it and its not any eaiser to hook up...

thanks for the inputs so far

the only differences would be box size (not much), output difference (15 will get a lil lower), and some minor wiring. probly run 1 sub off it's own amp or 1 big amp (1000-1200 a piece).

correct, the size will be slightly different but actually getting the wood and stuff together to actually build the box, i don't think theres any whacked off different way of building box for two 12's vs 1 15...

as far as output, the 15 will get alittle bit lower, but will the 12's offset that by getting alittle louder ceteris paribus?

and for the amp, yeah, there will be some slight differences but we're not talking about something so difference as changing the lightbulb vs. changing a engine...

well the 2 12's would have about the same cone area as the single 15, so output (spl) would be just about the same. nothing drastic. not much differences really.

if money is an issue, get the 1 15, get the supplies to build your box and you already have the amp.

if you have the money then get the 2 12's and maybe 2 1200watt amps.

well thats the thing, it seems like money "isn't" really an issue cus they are basicly almost the same cost...

so what yuall are saying that maybe going with a 15 might be better because

1. its alittle cheaper

2. spl (output) is almost the same

3. the 15 may get alittle lower

4. some may say 1 15 is more impressive then 2 12's if doing the same output

2 12's because they'll have more output cause a 15 have a little bit more cone area than 2 10's but 2 12's have more area than a 15... do the math and you'll see.

1 15: 176.71 square inches

2 10: 157.08 square inches

2 12: 226.20 square inches

so 2 12'2 is the way to go.
