1999 Camaro install, 6.5" drivers. Need advice.

I'm trying to setup a system for my friend. He has a 1999 Camaro SS which he wants to use as a street/drag car, so weight is an issue. The car comes with 6.5" woofers on either side in the rear. I would have to trim the panel and build a grill over it to allow for the excursion of most after market woofers.

His thought is to re-use the stock locations with the Tang Band 6.5s I showed him. (Someone on here showed a video with 4 of them in a box ported)

He is concerned mostly with SQ.

How do the TB's sound? Would they work well mounted in the stock location ? Any other small profile woofers you would like to suggest would be great.

To compliment these I would put in a nice set of amplified components in the front , and a nice HU.

Price isn't an issue as far as the woofers go.

For an SQ install (or any for the matter), the components should never be amplified by the HU lol...

Hard to say from the description but if it's freeair you are probably gonna have a difficult time getting alot of subwoofer sound out of just a couple of 6.5's...

Id suggest 1 good 8, like a DD1008 or one of those RL8i's or maybe an 8W7 in a small ported box.

It might be wise to know how much bass he is expecting... If he just want's "more" bass from a stock location, what you said might work.

With a little tweaking you can get the eD-700 to fit, which is their little 6.5" subwoofer and supposed to put out a little bit of bass.

You can also get a shallow 8 and put it in that panel as well. It takes a little work for that, but not too much. PM me if you want more info.

Every 100#'s will usually cost 1mph and a .10 in the 1/4, depending upon how fast the car is. Probably why I laugh when guys mention being concerned about saving a few pounds when installing a stereo.
