18" RE MT's *PICS* 02/06/08

I think you'll have some loading issues considering the placement of the subs. Especially the black box with the big square port. Is there no way to get those 18's even? Good luck
What do you mean?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif What would you change with this design shown below, I thought it had the best sub placement out of all the designs.

I only have 37.5" between my fender wells and the out mounting dimensions of the subs are 18.5" X 2 subs = 37". My 1st design that is shown in the original post was a ***** to make the cutouts just right. I'd rather have them stagered to get better bracing.

Where would you guys place the subs on the box's? Farther away from the port? Closer?

The sub closest to the port will unload faster than the one in the front. Yeah, it's still going to be loud, there MT's but if there is some way you can get both subs to load into the port evenly, it'll be louder. I hate designing enclosures with space limitations.

Ahh , I see. I never knew about that. Thanks for clearing it up. I'll revise a few designs and see what I can come up with. I think the subs directly above the CRX slot port would be the best bet.

yeah, that would be a good bet. Maybe you can try a "sideways" CRX enclosure, with the port facing the side? I've never done that in an SUV before so I can't give a first hand account on how it would perform.

Red or Green arrows, whats better? If I go green I need to lift the box 2" then it's above my window line //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif...

I have a single 12" box that I use to determine port direction and sub loading. I have no experience with your year of Blazer, but my 87 liked port to the driver side subs facing up. I gained 1.3 db with the side port vs sub up port back. Also was .4 db louder than subs back and port back. I suggest building a scaled down test box before building a new box under the window line.

Fire port to the side. Trust me on this the rear window on 2 door blazers will thank you for it. In my tests i was only.1 louder porting to the rear but i thought my window would break.http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=216076

Yep, I know exactly what your talking about, that rear windows gonna flex like crazy. Thats why in the past I've ran both sub and port forward....

yea with the box you made like mine, this one

major loading issues, and that box is tuned to about 47 or so, thought it was tuned alot lower.

waste of wood and time, get them to load evenly.

Not unless I raise the box 2", the mounting depth of the MT is 10.75, with the double baffle I only have 10".
This is why I'm kinda leaning to the design with the big square port.

Will the subs placed where they are on the slot port design not work out that well?
not so much. the airspace above the port will not be pressurized correctly, and you run the risk of unloading the drivers because of it.

coinsider raising it just one inch...MT's dont need any room behind the motor as there is no vent pole, so a quarter inch should be just fine.\

staggering them is fine though...

or just build the same wall you have and tune it higher. 35hz would be a good place to start................
1st thing I'm going to do this weekend before I do the new build is chop off about 5-6" of port out of my current box/wall which will give me 33-35hz tuning. I will see how it sounds, if it's what I'm looking for I'll keep it. If it doesnt work out well I'll build one of the box's I've posted in this thread and I will make sure the subs are side by side loaded evenly with the port.

sigh, guess you could always go sealed........

Anyway, have you thought about instead of chopping down the port maybe add some stuff inside the box to take up enclosure volume? That way you still raise the tuning and IF you decide to run more power in the future, your subs will be able to handle the power better in the smaller enclosure and it's always easier to take out the stuff you add instead of vice versa. I say throw in some large 45's in the corner to take up the space.
