18 in the trunk?

I know its not a guarantee in all trunks but in my vehicle (2008 chevy impala) I actually have less trunk rattle up firing than rear firing. If you can use a smaller box just to test with give it a shot. I swore I would never do it in a trunk but sometimes its necessary. I tried with a single 12" and it worked out well for me unexpectedly. Only thing is that I lost a little bit of impact but the overall sound was smoother. I eventually did do an 18 in my trunk also and up firing was the only option. Was crazy loud . I say go for it

Seeing how all but one world record in a trunk has been set with subs and port firing forward, I'd say it's pretty ideal.
Seeing as how all of those vehicles play ONE tone and it's usually above 60Hz I would say they have very little to do with a daily driver/musical set up.

My experience has been: forward firing/not sealed off meters loudest/peaks higher and doesn't sound quite as loud to the ear. Rear firing peaks lower and sounds louder to the ear.

I've only bothered to mess with this in 4-5 cars but it was consistent in all of them....

Two words... Thor's Hammer. I do agree that firing forward without sealing off the trunk is generally strictly for SPL; sealing off the trunk is more ideal in most cases.

Two more words: SMELLY SUBS lol

Met him at Slam last year, nice guy and very impressive set up. But good god do those subs get smelly in a hurry....

I have an 18 hdc4 upfiring in my 2007 impala trunk and i hate it. Looking to switch to some 12s for now. God my trunk rattle is absolutely nuts

I think he pushes the limits a bit.... Lol
I believe this year he was running a Taramps 20k
Don't remember what amp, but yes he pushes them VERY hard which is what subs are for. Recones are cheap....

yea i need to finish deadening. I've deadened the lid and it helps that a lot but i need to take off the bumper and get under there.

yea the bumper is.where 70% of the rattle on these cars come from ...i got layers of deadner all over and spray foam in lid and behind bumper ..helped but its still there

Right now I have my 15" in a trunk firing towards the cabin. Obviously with the back seats up, the bass is solid but not nearly as loud with the backings laid down. I do plan on experimenting with the positioning of the sub. My trunk is pretty big and I can position the enclosure any way I want to try. No dynomat as of yet. Car is still new and its freaking WINTER.... I hate cold...

Consistent with the testing I've done with a trunk. I'd add that up-firing often works well, and I've heard a couple sealed off trunks that were quite nice.

He runs a ton of power and breaks a lot of woofers.

My setup vibrates my trunk lid like no tomorrow, was playing it last night and sat on the trunk lid for a good low bass note (On My Level by Wiz Kahlifa or however you spell that) and my voice would vibrate from how badly the trunk lid vibrated. When sitting on it there were no exterior rattles and sounded great on the outside, actually.

Adjusting the position of the lock might help pull the lid down a little tighter and help a little with the rattling.

I heard of a trick that involves wrapping the post that the latch connects on to with electrical tape, makes the connection tighter. I have yet to get around to sound deadening, though. That's up next on my list after front stage upgrades
