18 in the trunk?

Got some xfl's from a user...now they offered me an 18" zcon for them. Don't care about whether it's a deal or not.

Just curious about fitting the zcon in a trunk? It's a 2003 hyundai sonata that it'll be going in, fairly large trunk. Would rather not do sub up because of trunk rattle.

Suggestions?

I've seen 18's in trunks several times. It's really simple, do you have enough space?

I'm really questioning whether I have enough space or not... trunk height is roughly 21".... I'd have to remove some trim and really snug the box in there. One 18" has more cone area than two 12's, right?

Yes, but the box typically has to be quite a bit larger than the relative cone area gain.

Got ya. I'll get exact measurements when I get off work. I pulled these off another website for the 04 model so it might be slightly off but who knows.

I'm not familiar with box sizes for the zcon.

i can see it working, i was planning on doing an 18 in my trunk before i got a zcon 12 and my car's a tiny 03 corolla got 6.2 cubic feet with some adjustments worked out. it'll be a lot less then the optimal size but its still in the workable size where it wont sound terrible. Your trunk has a lot more clearance compared to mines.

You have enough airspace, only thing you have to consider is the trunk opening, the inside of the trunk is much bigger than the actual space to get the box into the trunk.

Huge difference..

I've got 38" in depth (could go few more inches but that leaves about 6" or so from box to end of the car)

38" in width (could go more but that's between the two shortest distances of the trunk width" so if I went more it'd have to go from 38" in the back to the front which would be around 48" side to side)

Height would be 17-18" Which gives a few inches from the top of the trunk.

Opening is 24"...sort of, it's angled but it's 24" top to bottom and around 34" wide or so.

Oh, here shortly I'm gonna see if I can't get a few designs from you.

I don't want to go for the 18" just because I can cram it in. I want output and quality, and if I'm gonna get more output from the two 12s that's what I want.

U need to mock up a cardboard box as a template esp if ur set on not doing.sub up...i bet its a tighter fit.than u think

assuming it's a 4dr, you'll probably have to take a rear door off the hinges to get the box inside the vehicle. 2dr should be a problem.

I run a single 18 in the trunk of my car and am happy with it. Very musical and put up decent numbers the one time I metered it....

I know I personally couldn't run an 18 in my trunk, as I've only got 17" in height and I'm definitely not upfiring it. Even 15s are pushing the height limit, so I'm pretty much stuck with 12s.
