$1700, help me build a system!!

alright guys.. im helping my buddy put a system in his "g-ride".. its like a 70 somthing model mecury.. its got 20's and an airbag system etc.. anyways the car has no stereo in it.. im pretty knowledgable about car audio but ive been out of the game for a while and im not sure what stuff is good and which is crap.. he is wanting to spend about $1700 for the system.. we're going to get a local audio shop do the install and box.. he wants a loud system but not too much bass or too boomy.. just good and loud..

now heres the stuff i like and suggest.. i like the older version alpine hu's, they seem to be better.. as far as amps, i like jl's and kickers maybe RF.. subs i like jl w6's, probably 2 10's or 12's.. as far as mids and highs i would go with boston acoustics or mb quart's..

pretty much open for any suggestions.. all the stuff will probably be bought off the net.. so please, give me your opinions.. thanks

well how much are you putting aside for what? if you get mids and highs 2 amps and 2-4 subs thats 400+ just install so your budget is only 1000-1200 - 100 for misc bs charges not 1700.so start from there 1000 - 1200 and are you buying new or out of the classifieds?

start with the BIG3, then an alternator. next hit the mids & subs and so forth. guy is rite save a good 100-200 for BS things like wires and sound deadening equipment.

ok.. i know about the bs charges.. all im looking for is suggestions on which combo of hu, front comps, rear coax, subs and amps.. that would total around $1700.. dont consider the install prices and other misc stuff.. i know what all we will need there already.. it dont matter if its new or used.. cause i know some of the older stuff may be better than some of the new stuff (ex imo alpine hu's).. i just wanna know whats out there and whats good..

Im a fan of Boston Speakers for a SQ set up. For amps I would look at eclipse amps as well as eclipse subs. For the Deck, I again like eclipse but its not for everyone, Im not a fan of Alpine but many people love em. If you want Flashy pioneer is always good for the toys. Being that Phoenix Gold is all but down for the count I would be leary of buying their gear because getting it repaired in the future might be an issue.
