using dmm to set gain

Amp - 400rms 2 channel (have it bridged so 800rms)

so when i turn my headunit up from 10(reads around 60v) to 20 my meter reads 160v with the gain all the way down.

What do you guys think?

That amp cannot do 160v. Maybe 16.0v but definitely not 160v. It would have to be rated at 800 watts at 32 ohms lol.

Also, even though it's not possible the voltage is that high, I still wonder. When people say the gain is "all the way down", they could easily mean it's all the way up, because the smaller numbers turn it up and the higher numbers turn it down.

Have you hooked speakers up to your amp?
yes after ive taken the dmm leads off but couldn't hear the sub

also i have hooked up the sub and the leads once and the highest i hit was 26v(playing a song) with no settings changed
