15's and Rock

No, it's not even partially true.

I'd give you personal experience, but my 15 is a few months away from being ready //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I have always heard that 15's are deffinetly not the choice if you like rock. But is that entirely true. If you get a nice enough 15 and seal it wouldn't it do ok. Because I would like the deeper sound of a 15 for some rap.
If you listen to Classic Rock, like Floyd or Zepplin, then some of that stuff may not hit on 15's because those songs weren't designed with modern day equipment. It all depends on the box. Go sealed if you listen to rock on 15's. A great CD is Eagles - Hell Freezes Over. The production of that CD is just awesome, sounds great on a good system.

I believe that they had 15" drivers back in "those days"...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Tune a ported box very low (27-28Hz) or go sealed, and you'll be fine with a 15".

I am running a sx15 and I listen to rock its tuned to 35 and 4.0 after displacement and it sounds great. I had it in a sealed as well and in the ported box it sounds alot better. But I listen to some heavy but mostly like linkn park disturbed godsmack etc. What ever they play on the radio here is alot of that stuff and for the most part almost all of the songs sound great. Some times on only a few songs when I had my 12's I can tell the sub not hitting a part like my 12's did but not that big of a diffrence.

I listen to 90% hardcore, fast double bass etc, my 15 doesnt miss a beat in any of the boxes ive played with.

What ive noticed, alot of sq w\ rock depends on the quality of their recordings, I listen to alot of local bands, and their recordings arent the best, the bass sometimes is non existant. I hate it. I also hate when the bass is so high that it just sounds like *** in a can. bah.

get a better midbass.
Actually, I agree with that, the kickdrum will be in midrange territory. But as long as you have a low tuned enclosure (>28hz) or sealed it will sound fine. But if you are looking for that thump with the kickdrum you should upgrade your midbass.

diddo. i run ava 15 @27hrz and i listen to mostly metal, sounds great. if its a quality 15 i dont think you have much to worry about. just make sure you got plenty of midbass and u will love it. and as stated above a lot has to do with the recording. dont expect every cd u pop in to hit like a cannon.
