$15k to spend on a car...what to buy?

take a look @ the lincoln ls v8s used of coursethe v8 gets around 25mpg on the interstate

plus its always nice to kill some rice in a luxury car:yumyum:

Heard these were not worth a ****.. After 100k they are toast..

Get a corolla..

No but seriously I did hear that about the lincolns..

i test drove two ls v8's....i was considering getting one until i drove em....

were far slower than the 280 ish horsepower rating(03+) led me to believe. I saw a dyno of one that had 60k on it and it only put down 220 at the wheels.

not worth the 25mpg rating + premium imo

I've had a 2001 LS v8 for a couple years. Bought it at 70k miles...now it's at 160k. Still runs fine. I've only had to replace the mass air sensor and the tires because of wear and tear. Word caution, though: not too great of a college car. Yes, mines about 26 mpg highway, but it needs premium to do that. Gas eats up a lot of my college stipend, and essentially left me with very little money left over for the summer. It's the most confortable car I've been in, though...no doubt about that.

My vote is for a the VW's previously mentioned. The only real problem I see with them is a slightly high repair cost because of foreign parts. Although, I'm not sure if that's even the case for those models.

Subaru WRX wagon/Hatchback....whichever they call it. Reliable cars, good performance, plenty of room for friends/gear/whatever. Not sure about the mileage however. Also, don't forget to factor in repair costs. I own a bmw 3 series....repairs on it are astronomically silly.

Since your going off to College I would try to spend as little as possible, spend maybe half of that 15k on a car and put the other half in your savings.

That said your not going to find a better budget car than a honda. For $7500 you should be ableto find a decent used honda with a b-series swap and have enough left over to go turbo. 300whp on a stock b-series motor is easy with good tuning. On slicks you will have a high 11 second car, easy 12's on street tires, oh and when your light on the throttle still get 30mpg on the freeway.

That might be a little more work than you want though, so a camaro with an LS1 or better yet a Cobra Mustang might be an option. I like the Cobras and they can be pretty fast with upgrades. Your not going to get the kinda gas mileage a 4 banger will get you though. I can't stand newer 4 bangers like Subarus, Evo's, SRT4's, etc... they cost a lot and are still slow, unless you dump a lot of money into them.

So just get what you want and dont' blow it all on the car! Save some of it at least.
