15" Loaded BTL box help

I will be powering it with an atomic 3000.1d (3200 rms, supposedly underrated)

I want the loudest box possible but i still want it to drop bottom and be good for daily use.

Its going into a 2000 Chrysler 300m (Similar to dodge intrepid)

I will be doing sort of a wall behind the rear seats (they fold down and will be folded down most of the time). it will be sealed off entirely from the trunk to gain the most spl.

ok so fi's web page says 3-5 cubes. will 5 cubes be ok with 3200 rms?

How much port area for maximum spl? what tuning?

If you know what a dodge intrepid is then you know that the cabin of my car is VERY large and cabin gain isint much.

I was told that the larger the port and the larger the internal volume the higher the efficiency.

I was thinking of doing 5 cubes with 120 inches of port area. is this a good plan or no?

Is there a way to make curved ports for higher spl while still retaining sq?

should i go band pass possibly?

I wouldnt go with the largest size if youre running 3200+ watts...probably more along the lines of 3.25 cubes with around 80 sq inches of port area. And yes, you can make a kerfed port to make it curve like you mentioned.

And are you looking at this for competition or daily driving?

is there an advantage to using a kerfed port other than reducing port noise?

say i was only giving it 2k rms would 5 cubes be as loud as 3.25 cubes on 3200 rms?

Am i correct to think that a larger port is the way to go to get louder? how big is to big? what are the ill effects of having to large of port area?

ive got a design sketched up thats 3.5 cubes tuned to 34 hz with 91 inches of port area. is that good?

The enclosure that your designed (spec-wise) sounds like a good bet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif..Id try it out

As for the kerfed port, I honestly wouldnt see it adding anything noticeable without equipment to measure the difference...to the ear I couldnt see it changing anything/much at all.

And typically yes, the larger the port the larger the peak at a certain frequency but once you get too big the sub starts acting like it's simply not in an enclosure and typically ends badly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

And what kind of vehicle?...if its a hatch or suv i'd give sub up, port back a try //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

so i got some guys over at ecoustics tellin me that i will be ok to run 5 cubes 34hz and 120 inches of port area even with the 3200 rms.

can i get a few more opinions here.

thanks

i would say..with a loaded BTL you "could" do the 5cuft and 3200wrms BUT i wouldnt if i was you..well i really dont know you too well and say you dont have much car audio background..because with that much power and that big of a box stuff can go wrong fast..

if you need more input goto the Fi forums and they'll have you on the right track..

just so you know i do have a lot of car audio experiece. ive been on this forum and e for years now and i have build over 10 enclosures for my friends and myself.

i have had 5 systems in my car with the btl going to be my 6th. I just do not have experience with 15's i have only dealt with 12's before. i used to run a pair of sx 12's in 5 cubes on 3200 rms. and my btl is replacing that.

I just want help so i dont screw this up. i want to be happy with the box i build because im going to build it in my car and i wont be able to take it out without destroying it.

I want to have the sub and port fire into the cabin sealed off from the trunk to get maximum spl but i want it to sound good and last a long time as a daily setup. i will not compete with this system.

but im gonna head over to fi and ask around.

he cant know that much since he has his amp mounted to his sub box.
lol j/p. thanks again for all the help.
Hey now! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Im all-ears if you have a spot in my trunk where it'll fit and be secure...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
