12 that can blend and blast

I've have been out of the car audio game for a while, since about FI just started. My buddy wants to get a 12 that blends good in a smallish ported box, but can still spank out some lows when called upon. He's previous experience with subs consists of a couple kicker cvrs in a box with a ton of port area that were pretty loud for what they were. Is there anything newer I should take a look at in the $250 range new or used in good condition? He has a directed 1200d amp, but is willing to get a new one to match the sub if it can handle more power. I was thinking a BL, but wanted some opinions first. Did ascendant audio ever get things running again, I googled it and did a forum search and nothing turned up. A 12" havoc would be ideal.

Good call. Something that will stay fairly tight with some pop at lower volume not muddled and droning from lack of crisp cone control without hammering it back and fourth. However that being said he wants to be able to crank the knob have his vision blur. I know the box has quite a bit to do with this, but not all subs are created equal and I want the best for the money. Leaning a little towards SPL though because a fair amount of rap music will be sent to the sub...

AQ HDC could do the job with more power. IMO they sound very musical and can get very loud.

FI Q is another good sounding sub that will hit the lows well. Only heard a few BL set ups and enclosure or something was off as they sounded pretty bad and I know they have to sound better then that going by how the Q sounds.

A single 12" blurring your vision isn't going to happen though unless you have weak eyes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Dont underestimate single 12's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Sorry to burst his bubble but blurred vision and 1200D simply don't go together. Makes no difference what sub brand you throw out either. So yeah, tell him to sell it and get something with some serious headroom.

Single 12 off a 1200D isn't going to blur my vision and I'm old, so my vision is already blurred //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
