12" XXX problem

I just bought a used 12" XXX and there is something wrong with the voice coil. The voice coil is rubbing the cone or something, because every time the bass hits, I can hear a rubbing/crackling noise. But it doesnt get louder as I turn the speaker up. I can turn up the music loud and not hear the rubbing, but if I turn it down real low, I hear it. Also, before I installed the subwoofer in the box, the subwoofer wouldnt come on, but when I moved one of the wires going from the terminal to the voice coil, it would work. And then if I held the wire in certain spots, the subwoofer would sound clear without any rubbing. But when I let off of the wire, I could hear the rubbing again. Whats wrong with it? Should I not listen to it anymore, until I get it fixed. How much do you think it would cost to get fixed?

Well I unhooked the XXX for a few days, then I hooked it back up to show one of my friends what was wrong with it and it just quit working. I can tap on the cone and it will come on again for a few seconds, but it just sounds really scratchy. Could it possibly be that the voice coil seperated from the cone?

Alright, thanks for the help. I think that there is a resonant engineering dealer close to me called M/D audio or something. I will take it to them and see if they can fix it. Thanks
