12" Volfenhag Needs more power

Well, i set the gain to what i thought was good for bass, its at about 50% and the whole car shakes, no rattle but it feels like a back massage, any advice on where the gain should be? i can change the bass on the deck currently its set to default 0. Also i have the frequency set to 40hz the lowest because its a ported box, and i like low bass.

The fact is all everyone was doing is taking ShI* and in reality no one gave him a straight fu*** answer there for shut the **** up already with it give him what he wanted and be done with it. And , i couldn't give him a direct answer because i was annoyed but here is my answer.
Find sumone with an amp that is around the same specs as the one you have try that one, sony amps are junk but affordable to those that dont have a high payroll so i would try that out first even if it's just a test , just to give yourself an idea of what you have and what u might need. Otherwise maybe try to find sumone to tune the amp alittle bit maybe you just dont have it set right for the sub ?

Regardless there are a few things you can do without spending money u just need to look around, and if none of those things work just sell your sub and amp to sum idiot for more then you paid for it and buy yourself somthing better.
do you actually expect him to understand a bit of that jibberish? there are cheaper and better than sony for those without a big payroll.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif he should learn to set the gains on the amp himself, if he doesn't already know. you should never install your own equipment and have someone else tune it.

just do a search for "setting gains". been gone over 1000 times. 40 hz is what it cuts off from up top, everything below 40 is allowed through, above 40 isn't. i like mine at around 65.

That is the entire point of brining the car in to get that done, so you watch how they do it and you dont ever have to go back, there is no law in any state that doesn't say you can't watch work being done on your car, unless they were to state it but thats besides the point, if you dont know how to tune your amp you have to learn and that is one of many ways to do so. ANd, you dont need to be on a high payroll to bring the car in most shops are pretty cool about just hearing what you have and if good enough being able to find the problem just by listening.

I installed all the equipment and made the box my self, i know what im talking about, but there are always people who know more than my self.
just out of curiosity, what did you tune your box to? and how much air space? installed 4 different ghetto mexican systems using volfenhag.

I dont want bass above 40hz, its a ported box to 29hz anything higher will sound shitty.

and yes i do realise that im cutting off a lot of mids.

it's all about your ears. you don't want mids through the subs anyway. the best of the four i heard was 2.25 cu. ft. tuned to 34 hz in terms of spl. sealed was the best sound by far, but not as loud.

So internal dimensions are 14" x 24.75" x 17.2"

Cubic inches: 5959.8

Cubic feet: 3.45 gross volume

after subtracting the port and sub you end up with ~2.5 ft^3 according to the 2.5x14x39 port length.

Its all good man.....alot of these guys are going to give you **** without supplying any information.

They are correct when saying that most likely you haven't heard a properly installed Type R. A type R is pretty much in a completely different category than your Volf. Volfenhag is just a cheap brand kind of like legacy. Not saying that it doesn't work, but it is most of the time overrated on power ratings. A type R is simply just a better/tougher built driver.

I gave you a simple answer at first.....their is no way to get more power out of your amp with that sub.

honestly, people are going to give you crap about the sony amp, but it is alot better than your sub.

I would upgrade the sub before the amp.

If you would like to keep the sub and believe that it will take more power then their are plenty of cheap amps that would power it fine on a budget.

Check out http://Profilecaraudio.com they have some amps on there for sale new and some refurbed.....but they are really cheap and you could get mono amp.

I think that they have a 400Wrms or so mono amp for under a 100bucks.

good luck with everything

and if you have any questions just post them without saying that your sub is better than others or you will most likely get flamed by most of the dudes on here.

everything over 40 hz is not mids. subwoofers generally play around 30-80 hz in a car setting. you say you dont want anything over, so you just want 30-40 hz?

i'm going to be nice and not comment on your gear.

you cutting off the freq at 40hz LP is definitely wierd.....

forreal though......I guarantee that your component speakers can not play the 50-80hz to keep up with that volfenhag even

whew

My inside speakers are Alpines getting 25w rms each, they are pretty clear.

The reason why i cut off the lp at 40hz is because it sounded the best in the car.

then either you have no idea what a stereo is supposed to sound like or something is seriously wrong with your setup.

for the most part, the only music thats going to hit 30-40 hz is going to be really low rap bass. and i mean low, most rap bass is higher than 40 hz. i dont know if your familiar with young jeezy thug motivation 101? soul survivor, track 14 on there, is 30 hz tones. trap or die and air forces, tracks 15 and 19, are 40-42 hz.

you're leaving out most of the low end of a lot of songs.
