Any idea how much power one of these can handle safely for 1+ hour periods at a time?
thanks

no way dude!I had a friend with a Denali that shattered his windshield with a 13w7 and a JL 500/1. He was hitting like 170db.

there were obviously other problems in that particular instanceyou gotta be careful...
as far as thermal handling yes it should be fine with 1000 watts, but look out for mechanical handling...
in the spec sheet the sub has a min./max. enclosure recommendation...
the sub is designed to handle more toward 1000 watts at the minimum enclosure size....
but at the maximum enclosure size 500 watts is getting risky...
i know because i had a friend with 2 12'' type-x's in a box close to the maximum range and he tore his "beefy" spiders to shreds with under 750 watts and well under an hour!
so don't just go throwing a stack of watts at it without considering enclosure type and size...
they are equally as important as motor strength
exactly! you said it was a ported enclosure seeing the full power of a pdx1.1000there were obviously other problems in that particular instance
i have done numerous installs featuring type x's the latest of which had a pair in a bit large the recommended enclosure ported seeing the full power of a pdx1.1000 each and no issues whatsoever.....
to the op....they are inefficient bastards so the closer you get to the 1kw the better
