12" sub question

I know that there are a lot of variables and all that B.S. but can a single 12" sub be as loud as 2 decent 15s in the trunk of a large car on music?

I have a Treo SSI15 on 1200watts in the trunk of my Cadillac Fleetwood and was wondering if I could downsize to a 12" sub and get just as loud or louder on the same power. I want to use more of my trunk space, but don't want to sacrifice sound.

What single 12 could I get? I have up to 2000watts to work with@1ohm

too vague to make a judgement. if you do the math, you'd need a 12 that handles a ton of power. enclosure makes a difference as well. assuming the enclosure is built to optimize the sub(s).if you had (2) 15's, 250 watts rms per sub. 500 rms total, you'd need something like a 2000 watt rms 12 to make up for cone area. i didn't actually do the math, but the rule is to double cone or double power to gain 3 db's, i think. it would be hard to match the sound from 2 15's, in a well designed enclosure, by replacing them with a 12. if you are choking those 15's in a tiny enclosure, then math makes no difference. you'd be better off fitting the subs according to the room you have. what are your max dimensions for a box in your vehicle?

I want something louder than my Treo SSI15. It's in an enclosure thats firing back towards the tail. I think I could do a 12 sealed to the front. My trunk is huge, but the funny shape of my trunk keeps from having any real room in there. I love the way my sub sounds, but I want to get a little louder and save space in the process. Mission impossible, I know, but can it be done?

The two 15 reference was because my friend has 2 hardtimes subs from Robot underground, and my Treo sounds a good bit louder than his setup, and I want to keep it that way with this 12
