12” Daily Slotted

Looking to stick with a single Zcon 12.

So first time making a Slotted Enclosure.

The inner dimensions are:
12” X26” X 22”.

The Slot Port is 12”X 40” with a
5” Gap.

33HZ.
3.24 (after displacement).
(Includes port and Sub displacement).

I’m looking for advice on the width of the slot?

Looking for SPL and SQL.
I tried to look up the box specs on their site, it seems to be down.

3.25 may be a little large, at least for response, may be extra boomy or possibly fall off hard away from tuning frequency. The higher power ssa's can do big boxes but too big can sometimes make music sloppy, even if they say it can work in that space.

If you're saying you have 60 square inches of port that's maybe too much. You'd want like someone else said more like 16 square inches of port area per cube, so 3.25 cubes would be 52 square inches total. 3.25 cubes net for a single 12 in a car is usually considered a HUGE airspace. Some woofers require it but not many, so maybe if they recommended also a smaller size, maybe consider that for musical reactivity. I can go on and on about details lol, just things to think about.

Port area to box size ratio needed changes with box size...you typically need less port as airspace increases to a small degree, so with 2500w if you maybe do 2.5 cubes, port area may need to be slightly higher ratio. This is stuff you'd have to model, though. I've just noticed much above 16 in^2/cube with most subs starts to sound sloppy, until you get up sort of up over the 3000-3500w range, but once again, so many factors. I've done subs that need 18-20 in^2/cube but are in the 4500-6000w range.

If you can find the original box recommendations for the Zcon, post them.

Your tuning hz is fine, good for a lot of people daily.

For that sub I'd try for 2.25ft3 net to 2.5ft3 net /w/ 40ish in2 of port and that should mean an effective port length that'll end up in the 40inch to 42 inch range depending on what volume you have to hit 33hz.

3.25ft3 net is just too much volume and it'll affect response and power handling. 3.25ft3 for a single 12?...I wouldn't.

Here's a screenshot from SSA's site.

The enclosure sounds good!

The bass needs metering!

The Zcon throws SPL in this enclosure!

3.5 cubes after displacement.
33HZ.
60. Square inches of port area.

ChatGPT has good advice but currently lacks accurate port calculations!

There are two 6.5” speaker mounts on rear deck.

I want to add (2) 6” ports to connect the truck into the cabin.

The Total cubic feet after enclosure displacement is 7.8 cubic feet.

I know for a fact that (1) 6” port to tune it to 33HZ is 4.6”.

Anyone able to calculate:

(2) 6” Ports. (round).
7.8 cubes.
33HZ?

ChatGPT told me if the two ports connecting the cabin to the trunk are the same frequency then it’s considered a 4th order bandpass.

If the tuning frequency of the port though is higher frequency than the 33HZ slot enclosure within the trunk. Then it is a 6th order bandpass.

GPT:

“General Rule for Doubling Ports:

In general, if you double the number of identical ports, the length of each port can be reduced by approximately half to maintain the same tuning frequency. But this is true only when ports are identical in size and function (same diameter, same tuning frequency.”

Is this true?

Still need the calculation of 33HZ (2) 6” ports 7.8 cubic feet length?

I'm unsure what you are trying to achieve but it sounds like you're trying to turn your entire trunk into a bandpass. Good luck Charlie.
I'd just vent as much of the sound as possible into the cabin myself. Just a largish vent without any "length" and thru a seriously deadened rear deck.
I'd wager your trunk probably has more volume than you calculate and lacks the integrity to serve as a bandpass front chamber.

Am I reading the thread correctly?

Only a matter of time till a model can do everything better than a human.

Every time I ask the model how it will sound it’s been accurate.

Since it said the trunk will sound good as a bandpass I’m sure it will in reality.

That’s great because I’m done with human advice!

I listened to the AI model regarding my 5 inch slot port.

I didn’t listen to people.

I didn’t read anything you all posted and it works incredible!

When the model can get port calculations correct.

I’m not going near human advice.

Human advice is dictatorial, tyrannical, and not constructive.

I don’t care about your advice!!!

You can still install it through.
