10w7 question

I have a 1990 caprice classic the trunk is big so I will be putting 1 10w7 in it. most likely going to buy the PG X600.1 amp. Should I go with a sealed or ported box? I'm thinking of getting the JL H.O. wedge. I'm pretty much a newb to this stuff so any suggestions and opions are welcome/needed .. thx

I have a friend with a 10W7 in the H.O. wedge and an Alpine MRP-500 on it. Im going to be 100% truthful...It sounds like a wet fart, but it is really loud.

I would suggest something other than the H.O. box because I have heard W7's in other enclosures and they sound nice and get loud.

That amp is about perfect for that sub. Ported will be louder if that is what you are looking for.
that amp at 3 ohms will only do about 500rms at best where ths 10w7 is rated at 750rms. i ran one on a mtx 81000d(around 800rms at 3 ohms) and it was not enough. then i ran it on a fusion nvam25001 which gave it about 1100rms and it really shined with that power in a ported box designed for it. it had preaty good sound quality in the ported box to.

The amp is 600 watts rms at 1-4ohm, and thats at 12.5 volts and underrated. I'd say it makes close to 800 watts, so I don't get how its not enough power???

Please explain...

EDIT: 10W7 is rated at 500 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

check jl's web site-750 rms:fyi:

Technically you are both right. JL use to post that it was rated at 500 watt rms, but they have changed it to 750W (thermal power handling) on their website, However, if you look at the power chart, you can see that 500w is in the optimal zone, and 750w is in the black warranty void zone. I've personally have used a Alpine MRV-1002 600w at 4ohm and a JL 500/1 on a 10W7 and it was enough power. I wouldn't recommend anything more, definitely nothing at 1000w.

So JL rates the sub at 750 but then say's if you put 750rms to it that you void the warranty? Sound's like a pretty shitty move to rate the sub for 750 then not warranty it if you ran that much power to it and something happened.

But the PG X600.1 should work just fine with it as long as you have a good enclosure to go along with the woofer. I don't have any experience with the JL boxes or know how well they are built but I think you would be better off having someone design you a better enclosure and building it yourself or having someone build it for you.
