Where are my 72 virgins?
So its that time to go with some new subs and I'm wanting a few suggestions. Right now the amp I'd be running is the kenwood 9104d Kenwood - KAC-9104D. I'd want something that can be wired down to two ohms. It does say the amp is 1 ohm stable, but I really don't want to try it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/peace.gif.2db28b618ed8d1964ebbe2f5021d2c39.gif

sq or spl?

spl go with any sundown sa 8,10,12,15, whatever u can fit. can run 1 or 2 subs up to u.

sq i would personally go with exodus shiva or ae av 12 or 15, single sub

It's going to be for my daily setup but I would like it more geared toward spl. I've got a sealed for 2 12's and also a single 12 qlogic box I picked up for free. So either option is open for the number of subs. The thing I'm most worried about is durability of the spiders. I've cracked them on lower end subs quite a bit when there really should be no reason for them to. And of course the overall durability of the whole sub itself.

Personally I'd ditch the amp if your looking for spl, then its going to come down to the box, ported will be louder

with only 500rms you can get some bump but its not much power for 2 decent subs

Ditching the amp isn't really a possibility now. It's still kicking and funds are a little low. I think I'm going to stick with one sa 12 and run it at 2 ohms. I'll have to check tomorrow what the dimensions are on the q logic box to see how much space it has. It has a port built in but with my current sub setup I have the cap over the port.

the SA12 will be nice, just know you can get a bigger amp and add another sub in the future and your get some nice bumpage

Not sure on that box, any specs on it, may be tuned too high and not sound good

That's my plan to change amps down the road and add another sub to the mix, but I figured it could push one quite nicely. I'll go out tomorrow and measure the box and the size of the port and post it up. It's not a large box by any means so I'll prob just run it sealed for some nice sq.

Ok, so after pulling my box out of the jeep and removing the sub that was in it I found a model number. Q-Logic QLH-1.2512SE Type 2 single 12" hatchback box at Crutchfield.com With it being 1.25 cubic ft I think I'm just going to get the single sa 12 running at 2 ohms and keeping the box sealed. Then when I decide to upgrade amps and add another sub, a well built box will follow it. There's just a hole for the port in this box as you can see. I would have to get pvc or something to extend the port down in the box. Do you guys think the one sa 12 would sound like poop with the port open in this box?

Well that box would be pretty small for ported, and they dont give you the tuned freq which is prob high. So yeah I would take that port our and screw/seal a wood cover for the port. You could play around with polyfill to see if it helps. But yeah your loosing a lot of output compared to ported built properly

cover the port up. jacob recommends 1 cubic foot for the sa-12 sealed for sq apps, so should sound good. then when u get bigger amp, and or another sub u can build a real ported box.

Stop being cheap and build yourself a box. A small box would be easy, and even if you **** up incredibly bad itll still be better than that POS Q-logic.

Its way too small, theres not enough port area, and the port is entirely too short IMO to be tuned under 40hz.

The port is already closed as it is. It came with a cap. Im going to wait a few months until I upgrade amps and add the other sub before I get a nice box. The box I have will be good to run sealed which I can handle for a few awhile.

run the sa-12 at 1 ohm you will be fine, with imp rise and the sa 12 will handle 900 rms easily. its always good to have a little extra power, you dont want to cranck the amp full power and get a lot of distortion anyways, distortion is what kills subs not power usually. people have a 600 rms amp and a 600rms sub its not as loud as they want and they turn up the bass boost and the gain all the way then a month later smells burnt
