1 more noob needing help threads...

It can and will hurt. The cap is useless, don't bother installing it. Thats just my opinion, it wont help at all. And no one answered you so here goes, you're correct the fuse is there to protect the wire so you fuse to the rating of the wire. 0 gauge is usually fused at 300 or 350 amps. Your not going to be pushing the limit of that wire so i would just go with 300 amp fuses. Good luck!
thanks man,

so when you say use 300amp fuses that is everywhere 1/0 wire is...So basically everywhere I need a fuse...Cool thanks...

Now on the cap, it will hurt my system??? Sorry but i am lost here, I bought it because I was told that if your amps don't get all the power they need, they distort and clip and that I was told is no bueno...So I was told to put a cap in line so that if my amps demanded more then my alt could provide them then the cap would add the additional power required to do the job correctly???

Is that not correct, I believe you, I just like to know why...

Oh shit, that means I have to find a new power/ground dblock because the one I have is midi fused and midi fuses only go up to 175amps...

This shit is way more complex then I ever imagined, I just thought, buy stuff install it and listen...LOL...****,****,****,

im running a load boss 250amp alt..its been **** good to me. I'm running 2k now not even dropping .1v from 14.5v. It's held up under 4k and it'll power 6k when I run my amp at .5 ohm

The cap will discharge in a matter of milliseconds and then it becomes a drain on your electrical system. Better off getting something like a small Stinger or a Deka intimidator.

The thing I don't understand is that if the cap discharges anything at all then my power from the batt/alt isn't enough to power my system and then I should have a cap there so I don't ruin my amps...

What I was told is that a cap sits there charged and if it is never needed then it sits full forever, but if it is needed it dumps as much power as your situation requires then it recharges...Is that not how this works??? I understand it would **** a bunch of juice to recharge but I have a big alt w/ short run of big wire and a upgraded batt...

Sorry, I have no problem skipping the cap, I just bought it because I was told it was a necessity...

well, I guess I can exchange it for a smaller cap setup and I have the stinger spv35 dry cell batt for my car, the deka is too big for my car...

The cap will discharge and supply the extra needed power for a second or two and then its done. What they are saying is that after the cap discharges it is going to try and recharge itself which will actually be drawing power away from your amplifiers until you turn the volume down enough for it to charge. I would definitely recommend returning the cap and getting a second battery. I use Stinger bats but a lot of guys on the forum will tell you that Kinetik is the better choice. For what you paid for the cap you can get a really nice second battery and have lots of power in storage. It also happens that I currently have a Stinger SPV44 and a Batcap 400 for sale pretty cheap if you are interested.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Also look into Quality Power Auto Alternators. They are fairly priced and in my experience do their rated power and a little more. Good luck!

thanks man, that made it a bit more clear...So what in the hell are caps for if not for helping out a system that doesn't make enough power...

Oh well, it goes back...You know honestly, after the dry cell and the 170amp alt, I don't think i will need a cap or a second batt...1160 watts RMS max and 135 amps, so actually I have enough power from the alt alone to power my whole system at max power and feed my car some power as well...

Cool thanks everyone for all the help....This car audio stuff isn't as easy as people think it is...I always just thought, buy stuff, put it in and listen, but it isn't that easy unless you take it to a shop who usually rapes you and does shoddy work anyway or you yourself have to go online research as much as possible and go onto forums like this and ask nice people like you guys for help...it is appreciated...thanks again...

Oh 1 thing I wanted to ask about this...

If I was running a 15 pharad cap and my amps needed say 2 pharads of power, wouldn't the 15 pharad cap only give my amps the 2pharads it needed and then just recharge the 2 pharads or it doesn't matter if my amps needed 1 or all 15, the cap will dump its entire storage of power and then has to fully recharge?????

Sorry guys, I understand what you are saying and that is the reason for this question because I do not know how a cap actually works...Cap is going back, I just need to understand this, not just to get an answer, I need to know why something is the way it is...

Thanks again...

If you really wanna know, just search capacitor here and do some reading. There's pages and pages of high quality reasoning. They are a marketing ploy similar to using shiny boxes and LED's to get people to buy dual subs. Yes the cap does help your system. However the drain and negative effects it puts on your electrical FAR outweigh the benefits, making them pointless.

For 1100 watts you shouldn't really need to upgrade the alt or the batts. I love my Load Boss alt, so I'd recommend it again.
