Awesome forum.. need some pointers.

I have a stock 08 scion tC base, looking to upgrade the system for

Not looking for deafening bass, just a crisp powerful sound.

any help is appreciated!

Look for used then You won't get alot for $500 if bought new

look for some decent 12s or 15s. set up right you could get into the 50s with a pair of 15s. although it would be alot of work .

The best you can do right now is focus on getting a good substage. But you can do a lot on that budget especially if you buy used. You're stock head unit should have preamp outs from the factory so you dont need to add a new one, it be nice, but not a must.

You could get....

Obsidian Audio or Sundown SD 12 - $150 (or something else, could get something cheaper)

MB Quart ONX 1000 (750 @ 2ohms) - $160

Boston Acoustics S60 components - $90 (92dB sensitivity, can run off HU power assuming the stock HU is decent)

Knu Konceptz 4g amp kit - $55

Total: $455

You can spend the rest on a new HU or on wood for a box. (can always buy a cheap sealed prefab and then build one down the road)

I'm in St. Cloud. I dont know of any shops in orlando but I could atleast help you out with the enclosure for whatever you get. That way you wouldn't have to ship it, we could just meet..
