05 Civic: deadening not eliminating rattling

been a problem for a while. i use some Dynomax sound deadener on my trunk lid and some left over on the inside of rear quarter panels.

then i used some Truck bed Liner, that hardens into a tough rubber/plastic like material and painted it all over the interior of the trunk that could get to.

then i used some auto Carpeting, glueing it to trunk lid and inside quarters.

however, it still freaking rattles when bass hits. sounds pretty bad outside. inside its not too big a deal, but you know it annoys others at stop lights cause i always get those looks from people.

theres alot of little places i'm just never going to beable to get to without taking the entire car apart, so not sure more dampening material would really help but what else can i do?

i've considered folding my rear seats down, but if anyone ever got into my car, they'd be immediatly visible. i think i need some way to hide my subs so its no so obvious, yet have my rear seat down, which may not help as i havnt tried it yet.

any suggestions?

First, turn your shit off at stoplights. . . Thats disrespect. For that reason alone that is why we have a sound ordinance. And that look isn't from your shit rattleing, its dude turn that off at the stoplight. lol. When your moving i say bump cause then others can change lanes speed up and slow down to get away from it. at a stop light your trapped. Do fold your seats down, and if your worried about exposure get some tint. I took "great stuff" expanding foam to my civic in my trunk it works great but it truly is a mess!!!!!! So be carefull. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

we dont have sound ordinances where i live. but theres always plenty of others with loud stereos at stoplights, others can roll up windows and turn up thier own stereo. as far as respect on the road, its a joke these days what with few who use signals, cut you off, ride your ***....etc.

however, if it wasnt for the rattling, you wouldnt beable to hear my stereo at all, just a little bass. it absorbs the music pretty well from outside. but the rattles are pretty loud

anyway i have tint but you can still peer inside.

i havnt thought of expanding foam, but the rattle seems to come from quarter panel just behind the door...i cant get to it from inside, but i'll look again and see if expanding foam would work. thanks.

i think my trunk lid is loudest and i deadened it really good.

Wait, what? You expect folks to take defensive measures against your noise pollution, instead of simply turning down your system at stoplights? That's very considerate of you. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

x2

I have my own system (which isn't much, 600 wrms split between two drivers, and 100wrms on each channel.), I had my music at 30-40/62 [which is what I normally have it at], windows were up, and there are always *** holes who blare their ish at stop lights.

lol, has nothing to do with the rattling. i already said the music is hardly audible outside, all you hear is the rattling, i dont have some 1000 watt system or nothing lol.

not sure if i want to leave the seats down or if that will even help, if it works i'd rather somehow make an air vent to the trunk but not sure what else to do with it. hence why i'm here.

As James Bang said, you have to find the source and deal with it. That car has a very rattle prone rear deck with the seat belt mounts, 3rd brake light, etc. You should also look at the trunk lid lift springs on the underside of the rear deck. Randomly applying sound deadener and filling things with expanding foam is just as likely to seal away the source of the rattle so that you can't get to it as it is to fix it.

i already took care of the rear brake light and seat belt mounts long ago as well as some other places. i'm going to try the expanding foam as recommended but the sources its comming from is where i cant really get to it from inside nor outside is what i'm saying. when i get some foam, i'll look for any small areas i can get it down into and see how that goes.

the other source is my trunk lid iteslf, i already have a square yards worth of dynomat on it and covered it with auto carpeting, so not sure whats the deal there. still rattles with seats folded down but main sources is the rear qaurter panel, between wheel well and door. its an area i couldnt see an area to get to from underneath or inside, but there i'm sure theres probably some way to drizzle foam into. never thought of using that stuff.

Whatever you do, do not let it get near your key assembly on your trunk. There are small moving parts and if you get them stuck in the foam your trunk might not lock anymore. . . I learned the hard way... Keep it away from all moving mechanical parts!!! And Seriously please, to everyone in car audio, respect others at stop lights, its bullshit if you keep that up. I don't care how many watts you are running. And we don't need anymore people like you keeping it up and making laws more strict on noise pollution after receiving so many complaints, its not much to ask for and it benefits everyone in the long run. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you keep pounding at stop lights and residential neighborhoods, you will soon. No, rolling up thier windows will not stop bass. They are giving you dirty looks because they don't like the bass. Bass travels long distances and easily enters nearby cars, even with thier windows up.

Those things rattle like no other. I had to cut mine out with a hacksaw //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
doesnt that keep the trunk from staying up? i dont think mine rattle, i dont hear any rattling sources anymore from inside, their all from outside.

thanks for the tip, though my rear dash panel i used dynomat, some areas i used polyfill, seemed to work. i did find some small holes from inside where i think i can get some foam into, its the areas above the rear wheelwell from inside...though its going to take a heck of alot of foam.

also, i never said i was a nice person //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
