My car has the factory JBL system. I have the Metra 8113 integration harness that plugs into the RCAs of the H.U. and provides power, ground, etc.

When the key is in the acc position, everything sounds GREAT. HD Radio works awesome, iPod works awesome, it sounds really good. I'm surprised how much better than the stock head unit it sounds... even though I know I shouldn't be //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

When the key is in the 'on' position with the engine NOT running there is a fairly high pitched whine coming through the speakers, regardless of what source I have selected, or where i ground the h.u.

when the key is in the 'on' position WITH the engine running, I still have the high pitched whine, but I ALSO have alternator whine.

I have grounded the HU in two additional spots, other than the metra harness. I have disconnected the HD Radio/BT box from the harness. Just to note, I had no issues with the factory H.U.

The JBL amp the car has is NOT the type that has the 1761 plug on it either so I can just bypass the amp... Not so lucky //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I am out of ideas. Does anyone have any for me?

Multiple grounds are no good, thats what causes ground loop AKA alternator whine.

Try making just 1 ground and see if it helps.

I had alternator whine, never really figured it out, but slapped on a ground loop isolator and it's been quiet ever since.... this is with a 4 channel amp tho

Just found out.....

when I jumper the pin for the amp turn on, and the constant power on the car side harness (read as: NOTHING HOOKED UP, BUT TURNING THE AMP ON) it still makes the hum. That's with NOTHING hooked up at all.

I'm going to be replacing everything soon. I have Focal, and JL stuff on the way, but I just wanted my iPod and Bluetooth before then.

like i mentioned in my last post, the amp will output the noise I am hearing even with NOTHING connected to the factory toyota harness, if I jumper constant and amp turn on.

that makes me think maybe the factory amp is grounding through the factory head unit somewhere. There's a lot of pins that are not being used by the Metra harness. I'm thinking maybe the amp has lost some of its ground.

just a thought. I don't know, I'm thinking I am just going to have to wait until I get the rest of my stuff in to install the h.u.
