12V power for EQ

I have 8 guage wire ran to the trunk where I have a 3-way splitter that will power 2 amps and an EQ. The EQ's power input is like 16 or 14 guage max. Is it ok to run this smaller size from my splitter, even though its supplied with 8 guage wire?

Yes. Just make sure you're using the appropriate size fuse at the splitter.

Will the amps use the 8AWG as their 12v power source? If yes, what is their power rating?

You add a fuse to the 16 gauge wire where it connects to the splitter, as close to the splitter as possible. 7.5A max fuse for 16 gauge wire, but can go lower as the EQ likely draws very little current, say a 3A fuse would likely work well to keep things safe.

The fuse in the 8 gauge wire near the battery protects the 8 gauge wire, but will do nothing for the 16 gauge. So you must protect the smaller 16 gauge wire with its own fuse. It's for safety so you don't have a fire if the wire were to short out for some reason.

Just thought of something, we never have to worry about the ground side?
