Also, maybe try some different ground spots. I'm thinking you've got an issue with this causing excessive voltage drop. Another thing to think about is where/how you're grounding. If you're grounding to a unibody, you could be having problems with that. If you've got a car with a real frame...

A regular multimeter will work fine. You may try putting it through a few known signals and monitoring output with an O-scope. But I'd be checking wiring and all of the settings on the amp if I were you. Unhook and re-polish ground spots, etc...

DD equipment is really nice. But in this case, you'd be getting the short end of the stick. Your equipment is worth more than his. You could sell your 9500's on ebay, buy DD 1500's and have money left over in your pocket.

Don't forget that the Ampere doesn't have that magic sundown fairy dust sprinkled on the board. I hear that adds at least 6 dB's.
