I don't have experience with the P1, but I love my 505/Blackbird combo. I had issues with the first gen Blackbird, but the second gen has been good to me. I have the traffic service added as well, and use the Bluetooth feature through the Blackbird. No complaints.

To get the head unit to function properly, the answer to both of your questions is no. Not being familiar with the first part you mentioned, I don't know if you need it for something on your vehicle to function properly. Anyway, the W505 and TR7 together should do everything you want that head...

I love my Type R 15s. I haven't heard the L7s myself, but I would never put something that hideous in my vehicle. That goes for just about anything Kicker makes. To each his own. With the right box, there is no way he will be disappointed with the Type Rs.

Yes. I have been running one for a while, and will be putting a second one in this weekend. I upgraded from 500/1s. I use one amp for each 15" Type R. I also have two of the 600/4 amps. I am extremely pleased with the HD amps.
