They high pass is usually tied to your front + rear pre-outs, while the low pass is usually dedicated to the sub channel. so you can block lower frequencies to the front, and block the higher ones to the sub.

ok, why the Alpine over the JVC? 2v vs 5v, jvc seems to have more features, time alignment and what not. its 4 channels vs 3.
