However, I have this amp that is barely used. What would be the benefits of getting the rockford fosgate amp compared to saving money and keeping the alpine and saving money? Thanks for any advice.

When comparing the Rockford Fosgate P500X1BD amplifier to your existing Alpine MRV-M500 for use with the Rockford Fosgate Punch P2 subwoofer, there are several factors to consider that could influence your decision:

### Power Output
- **Rockford Fosgate P500X1BD**: This amplifier is rated at 500 watts RMS at 1 ohm, which is ideal for the Punch P2 subwoofer as it can handle up to 1200 watts peak and 600 watts RMS. This amp will provide ample power to drive the subwoofer to its full potential.
- **Alpine MRV-M500**: This amplifier is rated at 500 watts RMS at 2 ohms. If you wire your subwoofer to a 2-ohm load, you will still get the 500 watts, but if you're aiming for maximum performance, the Rockford Fosgate may provide more headroom and efficiency.

### Efficiency and Design
- **Rockford Fosgate P500X1BD**: This amp features a Class D design, which is typically more efficient and can run cooler compared to traditional Class A/B designs. This means less energy is wasted as heat, allowing for better performance and potentially longer life.
- **Alpine MRV-M500**: This is a Class D amp as well, but the efficiency and design features may not match those of the Rockford model, especially if the latter has more advanced thermal and power management.

### Features
- **Rockford Fosgate P500X1BD**: This amp comes with advanced features such as a built-in low-pass filter, bass boost, and a remote bass control option, which can provide flexibility in tuning your sound.
- **Alpine MRV-M500**: While it also has some tuning options, it might not have as many adjustable features as the Rockford, which can limit your ability to customize the sound to your liking.

### Cost Consideration
- **Saving Money**: If your Alpine MRV-M500 is in good condition and you are satisfied with its performance, using it could save you a significant amount of money. The difference in sound quality may not be substantial enough to justify the expense for some users.
- **Future Upgrades**: If you plan on upgrading your subwoofer or overall audio system in the future, investing in a more powerful and feature-rich amp like the Rockford Fosgate now may be beneficial.

### Conclusion
In summary, if you are looking for maximum performance and features, the Rockford Fosgate P500X1BD could be worth the investment. However, if you are on a budget and the Alpine MRV-M500 meets your needs adequately, you could stick with it and save some money.

It would also be helpful to consider what kind of sound quality you are looking for and whether the existing setup satisfies you. Feel free to provide more details about your current system or any other preferences, and let's see if any other members can chime in with their thoughts or experiences!

Hal did a decent job, but all of your links open to the SE main page for me.
'Might get results from the group quicker if you link to the product pages.

Sub Link: Also added basic specs if even these links do not work
Rockford Fosgate P2-1X12 Punch P2 12" Enclosure
• Dual 2 ohm coil wired to 1-ohm. 400 watts RMS.

Amp Link Shop recomended him:
Rockford Fosgate P500X1BD
• 500 watts at 1-ohm.

Amp Link for amp he has:
Alpine MRV-M500
• 300 watts x 1 channel @ 4 ohm
• 500 watts x 1 channel @ 2 ohm

Key notes after looking at the products listed. The sub is wired to 1-ohm inside the box, so you need an amp rated at 1-ohm. The Rockford amp says 500 watts at 1-ohm, so would likely power that sub decent enough with a bit of headroom.

That Alpine amp is only rated at 2-ohm, you can not run it at 1-ohm, you would have to rewire the sub to 4 ohm, but then the Alpine amp only puts out 300 watts at 4-ohm, which is not really enough for that sub, although, technically would still make bass. That is why the Alpine amp won't work with that sub. Now, if you had the same Rockford subwoofer with 4-ohm dual coil, it could have been wired to 2-ohm, and the Alpine amp would have been perfect. But if you already have that Rockford sub, the link says it is 2-ohm DVC, so not right for that Alpine.

Either save the Alpine for a future project, but make sure you get a 2-ohm sub for it next time, or sell said Alpine and recoup a small amount of money.

I’d also like to add, if the shop is willing to rewire the sub to 4 ohm (they might charge more to take the sub out of the box, rewire, etc), you might be completely satisfied with 300 watts at 4-ohm.

And those links worked at first, but not now, anyway, specs are listed by the links.

ive seen the sonic links do that in the past, not going to pretend to know why....

It all depends on your budget. That Alpine states it's 300 watts at 4 ohms, but it might be closer to 400 watts. Like Fosgate, Alpine under rates their amps.

With that being said, that sub would work just fine if you wire it to 4-ohms and run it off the Alpine. The Fosgate will give more power, but it all depends on your budget. Like mentioned earlier, I'm sure you will be happy with the Alpine at 4-ohms.

It's referred to as a"soft" 404, and it is done on purpose for various sites.

It simply "catches" your inquiry and sends you back to the main page to keep you engaged with current advertisements.

It also prevents future dead ends (404 errors) down the line.

When people click on them a year from now, it still goes to the main page instead of getting a 404 redirect dead link response.

Agreed, more of a marketing or webhosting decision made by the site owner/retailer, a double-edged sword since it just pisses people off most of the time...
