Back subwoofer recommendations for 2000 Suburban LT

I'm the original owner of a 2000 Suburban LT with only 113,000 miles. I'm refurbishing the truck and need to replace the subwoofer in the back. I understand it will take a 2 Ohm speaker or 4 ohms wired in parallel 8 inch shallow? Any recommendations for a direct fit? Also these are non Bose speakers in this LT. I thought, when I ordered it, that I had every option. Now I find that some had a Bose system in them with the sub under the dash? Was this an option in 2000?

It depends on how much you are willing to spend. There are a lot of good brands out there that make a dual 4-ohm 8" shallow sub. Check out Focal, Kicker, Polk, Pioneer, Kenwood, Fosgate, DS18, and others. What is the mounting depth of the factory sub?

Not really sure. Major job getting to it. Just seen on YouTube that Suburbans take a shallower woofer than the Tahoes.

I remembered those subs being regular depth, so a shallow sub is not needed. I double checked, and it's accurate. You don't need a shallow sub. I would recommend pulling it out and measuring the depth. Remember, you will need at least an inch of space behind the sub to allow air to flow from the coils.

Be sure you are checking Suburban's. The Tahoes have a deeper depth.

We did a build using one of the DD Audio SL608's, which even though shallows were not necessary, was a fantastic drop in solution.

I've had a number of people listen to that driver and use it for factory replacements, even where shallow subs are not required, it's that good.

Purpose built, work just like full depth subs, takes up less room in factory OEM locations which is a plus for output.
