Power

Hey would you prefer more alternator power or more battery power when consider powering your system.I need 1200 ahs to power my system I plan on getting a 400 amp alternator with 800 ahs worth of battery’s. Should I get another 200 ah battery an add a dual alternator or will this be enough.

It works both ways. Radio comes from the battery, the alternator charges the battery when ever it goes below the 12 volts mark. And continually recharges it. So saying that one over powers the other is wrong. Both uses are same and operates in tandem. However choosing a good alternator will only make the battery last longer.

What amps are you using? 1200ah worth of power is a lot. For reference a 2k RMS system only needs around 80-100ah worth of battery reserve and maybe a 240 amp alternator.

I think you might be over estimating here. Unless you're running some crazy 10k RMs system for db drag lanes

I have 4. 15 in subs 3000 watts rms. an 4 Stetsom 8k subs …Im new to having heavy hitting subs im coming from only having 500 watts.. I take all suggestions into play.

I'm a little confused. So you are running 8 subwoofers? Or did you mistype? Did you mean to say you're running 4 3000 watt subwoofers on a Stetsom 8k amp?

Have you already bought everything?

Yes lol only 4 15 in subs sub . An 2 Stetsom 8k… I saw a few videos from Jacob viral was on one he said basically for ever 1000 watts you need. 100 ahs of power…

That's the general rule of thumb for AGM batteries. For lithium I think the rule is 15ah per 1000 watts or something like that.
However a lot of this will depend on your listening habits and what you are going for and how much you have to spend.

You really don't need 16k watts to be loud. Going from 500 watts is going to be a massive change.

Personally I'd stick with 2 15s and a 3k amp with a 240 watt alternator and a nice lithium battery. If your box is designed well for your subwoofers you can easily hit 140 DB. Plus you won't have to spend thousands in battery reserve or in a bigger alternator.

Are you planning on just having a daily bumper or are you going to competitions? What you are talking about is going to be kind of unwieldy as a daily driver

I’m already invested I have the speakers an amps an box.. I’m just working on power.

With that being said 2 8k amps is going to be pulling close to, if not over 1000 amps if you are wanting to get their full power. And that is at 100 percent efficient and amps are far from 100 percent efficient. The Stetson Bravo 8k (idk which model you are getting this is for reference) takes 739 amps to reach not even 8k (per amp dyno video) so two together is going to be roughly 1500 amps. If you are planning on using these amps to their full potential you are going to need several alternators. You're going to need 4-5 decent lithium batteries to support that or one giant bank. Then you're going to need several runs of 2/0 or 3/0 wire runs. You're looking at $3000-4000 in electrical upgrades alone.

I figured as much I already planned on getting two 400 amp alternator/s. I’m just looking for batteries right now.

Check these out. 3-4 should do the trick just make sure you charge em before usage. They are compact and light weight and many people swear by them. For wires check out GP Audio. They cut them to length and you can choose the colours of the insulation and shrink wrap.
For your alternator go over to Autotech. Depending on your year and model, they make up to 500 amp alternators and you can choose to have them powder coated in any colour you like. I've personally had a 320 amp alternator from them in my mustang and was very happy with it

Thanks you have any battery recommendations

I have Incriminator Audio 3k amplifier.

My car's original alternator was 100 amp.

I have 150 amp alt and 80 AH AGM. My voltage stays above 13.5 on music.

I use earplugs when I really want to jam.
It is possible I am not using all 3k from the amp.

May I ask what vehicle you will be putting this in?

As mentioned, for full power, your system will be pulling about 1600 amps, and that just the sub amps. What are you using for your highs and mids?

That is the kind of power you use for competition. In other words, your electrical isn't the only thing that will need to be upgraded. Your exterior will need to be upgraded as well. Stuff like your windows and panels, unless you only play it while your windows are down. You will also have to upgrade your suspension due to 500-600 pounds you will be adding in audio, materials, electrical, and batteries. Like mentioned, you will be looking at a few grand just in upgrading the electrical system. If you're prepared for it, go for it. However, just one of those amps and two of those subs will more than make you happy.
