Recommendations

I have a '93 Silverado, single cab, that I am fixing up for my son. Just wanted to get a few suggestions about you guys and gals would put in it. I'm going to replace all the factory speakers, add a head unit, as well as a sub or two. Thank you all for the help in advance.

4 - 6-½'s behind the seat if they fit. Look at Audio Legion. 4 of them in a ported box on a 1K amp.

A couple of 8s or 6.5s would be my choice. Shallow mount subs work ok also, but if your son is a bass head I’d go with normal 8s or 6.5s. What kind of music does he listen to mostly?

Before you buy subs, you should see how much space you have wherever you plan to put the sub box. Single cabs are tight spaces, so you'd really need to know what you can truly fit and sound good in there before buying.

Is the pickup going to be an offroad toy, show car, daily driver? How high on the priority list is the stereo?

My recommendation is a headunit that plays bluetooth and usb and aftermarket coaxial speakers in factory locations. Maybe throw in some speaker baffles or sound deadener. I prefer Alpine and Pioneer head units, but any of the big names will work. I wouldn't bother with subs or amps right away.

A lot of the biggest names are still prominent: Rockford Fosgate, Alpine, JL Audio. It all depends on your budget and goals. Assuming he is a young driver getting his first vehicle, I'd say let him get some time behind the wheel before you go too crazy with your build/restoration.

Some people put bucket seats in older trucks like these and do a sub box as a center console. I really like this body style of Chevy's. If you want to be really loud, do a blowthrough.

Buck, could you explain to me what a blow through is, like I said, I haven't messed with car audio in years. Thank you.

It's where you cut a large hole in the front of the bed and back of the cabin and put the sub box in the bed with a port running from the bed into the cabin. It's a decently extreme modification. Usually done with a bandpass style box.

Joe, the truck won't necessarily, be an off road truck, but it is lifted with all-terrain tires. However, you know how teenage boys are.

Buck, I believe the previous owner had a 8W0 in it. Should I go back with that, or are there comparable speakers that are cheaper now.

That was a great sounding sub, but not very loud. There are 8 inch subs that handle more power, but they are a likely a deeper depth. Having measurements for air space and mounting depth would help a lot.

A pair of American Bass Hawk 15s will slamm home as well. Just put in a pair in a good friends 02 T.Car in 7.0@31htz on a Cresendo Skyway 3k...

A single 10 or 12 tuned will do fine in that vehicle on a nice set of components and coax in back doors for passengers
