600 watt rms recommendations

It’s time for me to buy a better sub. Right now I have 2 fosgates from the 90s and I’ve replaced all my speakers so now it’s time to upgrade the subs. I want a single 12 inch woofer for less than 300 bucks. I was looking at the RF P3 because that is the brand of speakers I got. the amp I have is the Kicker cxa 600.1 which is 600 rms 1200 peak at 2 ohms. This is going in the trunk of a 76 cutlass so there is plenty of space for a big box if needed.

Thanks

I think that you should be looking to upgrade to a bigger bass amp. Somewhere between 1K and 2K to power a nice single 12". I'll probably catch ****, but an XFL1222 on a Sundown SFB1500 would work. Just sell your amp to make up some of the money. Or, buy an Ampere Audio 2.5 RVE 12" and keep your amp and possibly upgrade it later.

Thanks for your suggestion. 1000 watts rms sounds like a lot of power for a car that I daily drive. I’m building on a budget because I am only 17 and because of school and hours I can only work in the summer and I just spent the bulk of my money on an engine swap. The sub you linked, will that sound good on the amp I have now. Also in the summer when I get some extra change what amp would you recommend with this woofer. The most I’d ever be willing to shell out for an amp would be around 500 bucks but it would have to be something special. Again thanks for your suggestion and any help you provid.

What RF subwoofers do you have? I know we talked before and you being in Wisconsin depending on the models and size I "might" be interested in getting them from you if the price isn't too bad as I will have them reconditioned for a old school build in 3 years or so.

Also if you want a single 12" for under 300 dollars then seriously consider the SSA Icon 1,250 RMS and in a ported box they sound really nice. But you will have to upgrade your amplifier to a 2K or a SSA Gcon which is 950 watts RMS and you can then get away with a 1.5 SFB

Even a pair of >500W modern subs on like 1-2K will be an upgrade. Enclosure counts too so be aware.
Crap... even a pair of Blau GBW-120's on 1-1.2K should be an improvement.

Enclosure counts a ton.

I have the 12 inch Box That Rocks right now. It works and sound good but figured modern subs are better

I have no clue what they are worth but everything well. I know I've seen these go for 400 online but I don't think this is worth that much. Some of the carpet is lifting from the box a little but I think it could be glued back down. Shoot me an offer and we'll go from there.

Now when I make an enclosure, which i plan to do. Does it matter if I use MFD or whatever the fancy material is called or can I use something like birch plywood

Its not going to matter except weight in your applicaton. You got a low power setup. (>2k is low power unless you wire down and set it up and then you shouldnt be on here asking Q's if you can)
And seroiusly... that old "box that rocks" is about as valuable as a box of rocks unless you find a nostalgia freak or nuthugger in a FB group or Ebay... its a pair of old subs in a prefab tuned 40hz at best.
No hate here... real talk.

Thanks for keeping it real. I know I've seen it for sale at that price on ebay or something like that but it seemed WAY too high. I only paid 100 for it.
">2k is low power unless you wire down and set it up and then you shouldnt be on here asking Q's if you can)" could you please explain this maybe I'm reading it wrong which is very very possible but I just don't understand it.
Thanks

The guy I bought it from said it was worth something but I dont think he would sell it for that low if he thought it was worth 400 bucks which is what he had said in the description when I bought it a year and a half ago

You can get a legit 2K amp and wire it to .5 and things might get rowdy /w/ a set of 500w subs.. A $350+ amp that's a half-bridge wired low vs a 3K fullbridge should keep the rise down and get you loud usually but on a stock alt and startng battery, and cheapo amp is a non-starter. +200A draw with a factory chargung system? Groundpounding bass needs elecrtical power even if a good enclosure is used.
Real talk again... ta gotta pay to play.
I listed a low powered solution at 1st... why the escalation? Believe me that'll do rather well.
Bigazz subs are just that till you power them.
Please dont buy a Zv5 on a 2k amp lke most. Those big subs need power, prep and plannng to run.

DJ subs are designed for efficiency, car audio subs are designed for low end in a small space. So above ~50hz the DJ sub will kill a car audio...

Deff a beautiful constructed sub. The best thing about as well, they do perform very well too and have excellent C.Service and even Tech service...
