I'm trying to get WinISD setup for a ZCON. I need to enter the Thiele/Small parameters manually as they don't have ZCON's in their database. SSA list D1/D2 above the T/S parameters. Many of the parameters are the same, but some are different... which one do I enter into WinISD, D1 or D2? Here's a screen shot...

Input D1 and D2 as separate subs and see if there's a difference. Shouldn't be huge but it will depend on how many subs you're trying to run and what ohm. D2 for single sub setup and D1 for dual sub setups for a 1 ohm load.

Here is the response curve for the D1 and D2 parameters.

Should I be happy with this curve? lol. Is there adjustments I should make to change it?

The vent is what Aaron at SSA recommended for the 18" ZCON.
Original goals for this build is SQL, daily driver. If possible I'd like to hit lows with authority but this curve seems like the lows drop off real quick.

It's going in a Dodge Neon trunk, walled, blowing through deck. I've read the Neon has about a 40hz resonance. Will likely put 3,000 watt amp to it.

This is my first build, first time working with WinISD so any input is appreciated.

If you really want to emphasize on lows then you need to tune lower then. What SSA recommends is a happy median where you get more musical range but won't necessarily mean it's what you're looking for. It will mostly depend on what types of music you listen to on a daily and you move your tune based on that. I like playing around with aeroports because you can experiment with it and find out for yourself what works best for you. Just know that the lower tune you go, the less of the highs you get. So you have to give and take what you want from it. The program doesn't account for cabin gain so that graph is not the final curve you're going to end up with.

Have you ever seen the program autocalculate values that are different than what the manufacture t/s state? I'm trying to input T/S for Fi QNeo 12" and its just not working out. I'm following sequence of entering parameters as instructions and as others have stated, but it always autocalculates the Cms or Fs to be off by a decimal point (depending on what order I enter the values).

So aggravating.

Ok, so I imported the data from loudspeakerdatabase.com and the t/s matches manufacturer specs except for RMS which is way off.

My question is there really this much difference in output when you compare the same sub in a sealed enclosure to being in a ported one?

I'm correct that 3db equals twice as much output correct?

These curves show about a 12db difference at 34hz. Does that mean this sub is putting out 4x more output in ported box than when in sealed box at 34hz???

Yes because sealed boxes roll off so early. 3db is in peak output which is usually at a higher frequency. The lower you go the more gain there is over sealed. Sealed boxes generally roll off in the 50-60hz region so ported box output literally destroys sealed, that's why knowledgable members on here advocate for custom designed ported enclosures.

ok, thanks for that. can a ported box still have sq characteristics?... like with the Fi QNeo I'm modeling in winisd?.. ie. having tight, clean bass. techno for example.

Yes just keep the volume on the smaller side if you want a tighter sound like sealed.

Ok, cool. Good to know.

I guess what I really want to know now is what kind of different sound experience are you getting when you buy something like Fi's reference woofer, the QNeo rated at 1750 rms (the 12" is $469) and their SP4 rated at 3500 rms (the 12" is $499). Their just about the same price... major power output difference.

At moderate volumes what is the QNeo doing different than the SP4 at the same volume? Tighter bass or something?
