It is going into a 1996 jeep cherokee sport. What battery should I replace the main battery under hood with? A yellow Optima? I'm going to have a 240a mechman alternator. I plan on pushing 2-3k I'm still looking at amps.

Thanks

not the first one. get the biggest AGM battery you can fit in the stock location. You should be able to get a group 34 in that thing and if you end up going with big power in the future, you can always add another of the same battery in the back inside the vehicle as its not a lead acid battery and wont cause fumes, plus mismatching battery types is not a good idea (provided you do end up adding a second batt which many people with serious alternators do)

It's not required to upgrade the battery when doing an alternator but if you listen to the radio with the car off then it is a good idea. Optima is not wha thtey used to be and are overpriced fro what you get. I would look at XS or Northstar.
